"I felt weak. Stiff. I had nothing. I was getting caught by straight right hands. I've never felt like that before." When asked how he may have been poisoned, Tarver replied, "I don't know. Maybe something in the steaks."

    Bad steaks.

What a douche. I hope Muriqi knocks his milk dud ass out.

He felt weak from being mentally overwhelmed by the event. He was scared of Hopkins apparently and that led to him feeling so weak. It usually happens out of fear.

Well Foreman's been saying it since 1974, then he went quiet about it upon becoming a religious man.

Tarver is talking to Dawson like he thinks he's Roy fucking Jones - saying all roads go through him and that if Dawson is nice, he might get a shot at him. Give me a fucking break ! Tarver is a fucking idiot. He's maybe 25% as good as he thinks he is. And that makes him a delusional ass-hole.

It´s not how good he still is, it´s about how important he still is. He has no belts, got his butt kicked in his last fight and hasn´t won a bout in what 2 (?) years. That´s pretty low on the importance scale. You never know how delusional a fighter really is, until he´s making the last push for the last big payday of his career for the 3rd or 4th time.

to his own acclaim, tarver has every right to be cocky.

wouldnt u think you're god, if you were the first to dethrone the untouchable roy jones?

looking at it from that perspective, i'd probably do the same.

Yeah right up to the point that he got absolutely taken to school by a post 40 Hopkins.. At that point my god complex would fade a bit..

Hopkins is a great great fighter. A lot thought he won both fights against Taylor, so there was no shame in losing to Hopkins.

Are people going to make fun of Wright if Hopkins beats him (which most likely is the case)?

The whole point was Tarver's cockiness.. I don't think I've ever seen that from Wright. In fact, he is the polar opposite. So your comparison is ridiculous.

Also, there is shame in losing to a 40+ Hopkins when you run your mouth like Tarver did before the fight. In fact he made a huge point to talk specifically about Hopkin's age.. Going out and getting destroyed after that isn't just shameful, it's comical..

i wasn't trying to turn this into an argument. as a pro athlete, beating someone like Roy Jones (when he's perceived unbeatable) is a huge accomplishment.

tarver is cocky, but the roy jones win took his cockiness to another level. hopkins could've KOed him badly and he'd still be cocky. shit, he lost to glen johnson the first time and he was still cocky.

    that's all i'm saying.

It´s his cockiness that enabled him to beat Roy Jones.

Listening to that, and all of the other stupid shit Tarver had to say, during yesterday's conference call was an hour of my life that I would love to get back. I swear, there isn't a fighter in the sport I despise more than Tarver. I would root for the light heavyweight version of Mayorga against him.

Tarver's his own biggest fan. You know what we need most? We need to see him KTFO brutally where he's laid out on his back for the full 10 count. As long as he's losing by decisions, he's still always going to have that cockiness and pouring a bunch of excuses. But if he's laid out on his back, it'll bring him right down to earth.

No it won't. C'mon, getting dropped and thoroughly dominated by a 41-year old Hopkins, coming off of back to back (controversial) losses AND moving up 15 lb. should've been enough, but instead he comes back with this bullshit

He'll always have something to say. He can get KTFO, then pull a Wlad and say it was poisoned gloves, or watever, or that a witch doctor put a curse on him.

Honestly, the only excuse he DIDN'T come up w/ was being weight-drained. He knows he can't because of all the shit he gave Roy between their 1st and 2nd fights.

:dunno: WTF?,..Fraud produces even more outrageous horseshit every time he opens his mouth, he'll contradict himself 5 times over in one sitting, and tell fans to go fuck themselves cause they dont know nuthin' about boxing, but no-one ever gathers around like this for him^ ?...

I hate Floyd too. Tarver and Floyd are my most hated fighters. I hate any fighter that calls himself the best without facing the best.

i heard he's having hard time dropping under 180. that probably was the real excuse. watch him struggle again and lose to muriqi or not make weight.

I will say this, when I was in Las Vegas for the Floyd-Oscar fiasco, Tarver was one of the most accessible boxers I met. He gladly posed for 2 or 3 pictures for us. I was a little shocked..

I hope you're right. It sounds like he'll never fight Chad Dawson, unless his hand is forced and he has no other options. Plus Muriqi has had a rough go of it as a pro, would like to see him finally catch a break. Dude was a great amateur. A shame that he had the misfortune of getting Teddy as a trainer early in his career; that's what ruined him.

Who else do you despise? Who are the most likeable (besides Vivian Harris)?

No matter what, fighters will always have excuses. Even if they get knocked out.

    -"The ref counted too fast"
-"I'm still the best, I just couldn't get up for this fight (i.e by the count of ten)
    -"I had hepatitis"
-"My shoulder was hurt, my best days ain't yet come yet" (another great one from Evander)

yeah but at least PBF has a HBO contract and some scratch in the bank. Tarver is just a broke idiot, pretending to be a super-star. as silly as PBF is, Tarver looks 10 times worse. he's delusional! he's talking like he'd be doing Dawson a favor by giving him a shot. and yet, Dawson's the one creating buzz at 175 - it sure's hell isn't Tarver. i can't even believe he got a Showtime date.

Exactly. Dawson doesn't need Tarver, Tarver needs Dawson. Dawson is the one who has a belt, Tarver just proclaims himself the "people's champ" which is bullshit because most people can't stand the guy. The only guy at 175 with Champion attached to his name is Hopkins. Tarver isn't even a belt holder.

Despise: Oscar, Mierda, Tarver, Mayorga, Vitali, Teddy Reid... there are others, but that's pretty much my top 5 (or bottom 5, depending on how you look at it).

Likeable: personally speaking, and this will bother most people considering how he is inside the ring, but Cory Spinks is one of the coolest mf'ers on the planet.

Excluding fighters that I am friends with (Viv, Paul Malignaggi, Joan Guzman, etc.) some of the more approachable fighters in the sport (in my experience):

Shane Mosley, Shannon Briggs, Lamon Brewster, Andy Lee, Jeff Lacy, Ricky Hatton, Nate Campbell, Robert Guerrero, Jorge Arce, Kassim Ouma...

plenty of others, but that's enough for now.
