The kid is talented but not very skilled. I think he lacks head movement and gets by with his speed. He's like a disciplined Panchito Bojado. Reminds me a lot of Victor Ortiz in his early fights.
he looked pretty solid last night against a guy who's moving and back pedaling throughout. i'd still say him vs. gamboa is a pick'em fight.
Mikey never looked like anything special till he touched someone, if his power doesnt keep up the pace of the weight jumps he is in trouble
That's odd. I see him and think the complete opposite. A very skilled fighter all around. I am actually quite impressed by him in and out of the ring.
I mean, he's no Groanieaux. That guy! He could counter-feint a Monkey's Paw curse onto a newborn baby, without even throwing a single punch....................ever. If he ever fought Willie Pep in his prime...............goddamn............stars would collide from the frenetic inactivity.
Agreed. To me he is one of those young Hopkins type of guys who doesn't seem to be doing anything splendidly well but he seems punches well, he is very accurate and doesn't waste energy and makes everything look easy. He is no wizard like Rigondeaux but I have been impressed by him (didn't see his fight yesterday though) Also, blackrican made a good point that his power is what ultimately makes him special (in the sense 'top 10 p4p fighter')
That's because Rigondolf has hypnotized his followers into thinking he throws more then 12 punches a round. Clever little wizard that he is.
