Arum said this at a press conference for Pacquiao-Diaz.

This is what he said, according to Robert Morales:

-"We'll have talks in New York before his fight with Lockett and after about matching him with Calzaghe at 168," Arum said. "I have preliminarily discussed this with Frank Warren, who appears to be on board and Frank will be with me in New York and Atlantic City all that week and hopefully we'll be able to put it together."

-Arum said if this fight were to materialize, it would probably be in the fall. He said if it is to be televised on pay-per-view, it would likely be in Las Vegas. If not, it could end up in the United Kingdom.

-"That would obviously be the biggest meaningful fight for Pavlik," Arum said.

Yeah, this fight alone would pretty much change my entire opinion on the rest of the year.

Roy should do more to give them a reason to fight him, then.

What does he bring to the table at the moment?

He was basically begging Calzaghe for a fight at the post fight presser. Kinda the way Judah was with Mosley. j/k

Why can't Calzaghe fight Roy in between? This fight wouldn't be until the fall. Calzaghe beats Roy anyway.

Well for starters, how about a career-high payday?

You could say Pavlik is more deserving (although I think that's a mismatch IMO) but factor in the dough and it's a no-brainer. One minute, they're negotiating with Roy and now it's Pavlik? Hops said they were just milking him but would never take the fight.

Not to me. Calzaghe blows him out IMO. I don't even think Arum's dumb enough to make that fight.

Since it sounds like you know more of the actual numbers, how much more money is he bringing to Calzaghe than Pavlik?

Do you honestly think they would pay Calzaghe more to fight Roy than Hopkins? Roy is a washed up fighter and Bernard was considered close to the top of the p4p list. I don't think so brother.

Besides, I told you over the phone. Calzaghe loses that fight, so they don't want it. They'll get paid better for Pavlik with a better chance of winning.

Because he really wants Jones to get the fight so he's made his mind up about Calzaghe-Pavlik?:dunno:

Because he's gonna force Pavlik to fight backwards. Plus, I like Calzaghe's chin over Pavlik's. And his experience. And his strength. And his brain. And a whole bunch of other sh*t. Hell, Jermain Taylor nearly beat Pavlik last time (or did, depending on who you ask). I think Calzaghe does ten times better.

It's common sense but according to Roy on Btalk, Calzaghe would make eight figures. He does NOT make that against Pavlik who has one somewhat respectable PPV headliner on his dossier.

Jones-Calzaghe is bigger than Calzaghe-ANYBODY monetarily. Think they'd put Jones-Hopkins on regular HBO?

Calzaghe is not making Pavlik fight going backwards. No way in hell. Calzaghe doesn't want a fight like that with Pavlik.

Well I don't think there is anything wrong to losing to Taylor. Taylor is a good fighter, with some bad habits, but overall he's pretty darn tough. He beat Hopkins twice, in case you forgot. I think Pavlik is better than you give him credit for.

    Strength?

Calzaghe's strength is really going to play a factor in this fight?

Well I didn't have him beating Hops either time. And while he's pretty good, let's not forgot how we were blasting Jermain for his performances against Ouma, Spinks, etc.

I'm a Jones apologist, I make no bones about it. But Jones-Calzaghe is a bigger fight than any other fight Joe can make. Maybe I'm wrong...I doubt it.

Why is Roy even talking about fighting anybody of consequence anymore. :dunno:

Isn't this the same guy who for years swore he wouldn't end up like Gerald McLellan. Now, he decides he wants to take fights he should have taken 5-10 years ago when his skills have eroded as much as they have.

Did he lose more money recording rap albums then we think? :dunno:

You have to admit, using Roy as leverage to get a better-than-expected payday elsewhere is a smart business move. And if the Pavlik fight falls through - it's not like Roy can jack up the price any, or at least not dramatically, not if he still wants the fight.

Calzaghe will find work regardless - remember, even if HBO isn't offering, there's always a quick payday on Setanta (unlike US fighters, overseas stars have more than one network to turn to for a decent payday). Roy's the one who needs the fight at this stage, and he tipped his hand by damn near begging for the fight, even putting out "40/60 and I'll go to Wales."

Otherwise what's left - a rematch with Tito? Hopkins?

Any other fight against a top light heavy is just as much risk, for nowhere near the reward that comes with a Calzaghe fight, at least at this stage of Roy's career.

All that said... this could be a way to get Roy to take LESS. Perhaps the money's right to convince Joe to shrink back down to 168 one last time, but the fact that the fight would take place at that weight is what leads me to believe this is a red herring more so than a legit fight offer.

Youre right. Roy should've fought Joe in Wales when Joe was basicallya nobody holding a nobody's title while Roy sat atop the sport.

I don't quite understand that comment either.

Maybe he's got the Taylor rematch fresh in his mind, but Calzaghe isn't nearly the same kind of fighter.

I know you didn't think he won. Unfortunately many people including the jduges did. I had him winning both fights by a very close margin.

Yes, we said he looked terrible against many fighters, but was that him or Manny's influence? He looked pretty good in the rematch with Pavlik.

You are wrong, don't doubt it. Nobody wants to see it but you and Roy. Sorry bro.

I'll root for Pavlick but I think Calzaghe will win a fairly easy decision.
