Fair game Oiyrish,.. give Kim his final flurry, you can't tell me it doesn't get the heart racing as intended. We all decorate our little compartment complex with preps of a shattered dream or so wherever we end up. It's a fine call, rallying imaginary dependents, or rallying for the battle of security, security where it counts. With your concern, trust he'll work it out, do trust.
My problem with Atlas's strategy with Povetkin isn't the strategy itself, but I believe I've heard Atlas go off on his rants about how fighters are too afraid of losses on their records, and learning experiences, and protected fighters and all of that bullshit. So it seems pretty hypocritical to mE. Unless I'm just remembering everything about the lame FNF rants incorrectly.
Look, WTF is Atlas "guiding" the guy for. He's not a fucking missile, he's a great big cannonball. You don't "guide" a cannoball. You just get it roughly on target and let it go to work. Povetkin already knows how to fight- Atlas should be keeping him sharp and active and letting off the leash.
Just say you wanted Steve Kim to crack eventually, don't you feel, that his 'final flurry', means something a little more than it appears? ...... trust me on this one, he's on the edge.
All I'm saying is,.. when someone squeaks or chirps in a routine,.. and the content of such a tick is quite unintelligible, then it's encryption is pretty sound,.. But when Steve Kim for example, insists on a concept, that sounds oh so familiar, ....'Now it's time for Steve Kim's.....Fiiiiiiiinaaaaaaaal flurryyyyyyyy!!!'.... and YET,.. it is not framed as a form of parody,..WHAT SO EVER,.. (The joke has been insisted, INSISTED upon for faaar too long)..... :crafty: ,...twas never a joke?,.. well now,.. he's GOT!!!!...... he leaves the dog-flap unbuckled to his soul,..this is lost hope,......thus a pinch, apply pressure,...pat it,...and then punch it quickly,..relax, relax, relax,.. punch!, twist!,.. kiss!,...pinch!... it'll steam Irish,...if he continues to interact, there's only one more year of Kim to go,..expect him to vanish like Fischer.
The interview is worth watching. That's the Teddy Atlas that I like. He explained that he didn't want his fighter to get taken advantage of by his promoter, Sauerland, and that he would have with the $2M payday by only receiving an unspecified amount of that amount. He also directed no animosity toward Povetkin regardless of what happens as Povetkin is free to do what he wants. I agree. Sauerland doesn't respond so who knows what their side is, but I'm not sure they are as bad as Teddy implies. I would expect that they paid Povetkin a substantial signing bonus to be his promoter based on his credentials and it's reasonable for them to expect him to make some money for them, too.
Who the fuck is Atlas to start playing matchmaker and saying that Povetkins promoter shouldnt get to decide who he will fight... thats their job as promoter!! He needs to calm the hell down and just do his job as trainer and then maybe he wouldnt be getting his ass fired like this. Also thats not true that he didnt badmouth Povetkin, he snuck a couple shots in at him, ex "i trustED him"
I don't think he meant it. He just gets off course because he is thinking about Povetkin while bitching about Sauerland. As far as "who the fuck is Atlas" goes, I think it's clear that he sees himself as more than just a boxing coach. He's more like the Cus D'Amato life coach type. I don't necessarily agree that his philosophy is the way to go, but I do think he is consistent that way and can respect him for that. If Teddy was mercenary, he would have taken the payday and not looked out for Povetkin. Obviously, I'm trying to fill in a lot of blanks, but I do think that if Povetkin didn't think Teddy was making sense, he would have fought Wlad regardless of what Atlas wanted him to do.
Povetkin could have fought to Wlad two years ago for roughly 3-4 million dollars, if I remember his cut from the purse bid correctly. His stock couldn´t be any lower today, if Wlad had laid him out in 60 seconds. He´d just have a lot more money.
Yeah, I can't get enough of Atlas rambling about knickers and lipos either. Atlas didn't want to talk much about the job he's done with Povetkin and I don't blame him...although it's a shame the interviewer didn't take a little more control of the interview and perhaps try to direct his comments that direction.
Atlas is definitely not a mercenary and is definitely not a thief. Atlas has turned down more paydays with guys because he felt they weren't doing things right. Paydays with Moorer, paydays with Briggs, paydays with Kirk Johnson. But....Atlas definitely is emotive. He wails. He gets too involved. Povetkin is a big, quiet, very well schooled LUMP He is plasticine. He needs moulding. Gentle soft moulding. This screech-fest dont wash. :nono:
I don't like Atlas, but I respect his attitude and consistency. Like others said, it would be very easy for him to not care and just take whatever payday. He obviously cares about the fighters though and their career.
I think its more a case of Atlas trying to take credit and pat himself on the back for something that was never really his decision to begin with.
