Did he tap twice? Looks like he tapped right when Alverez got full mount and initially sank the guillotine.
Unfortunately, that's his style. He has good striking defense, he just rarely uses it these days. He's the type of fighter that would rather take 3 to land 1. Luckily for him, he has a very good chin. He's been knocked down before, but he never really gets hurt. I'll give Loughran credit, he showed no fear at all, and Alvarez is one of the heaviest punchers at 155. In spite of his record (18-12), he's a pretty good fighter. He's only been KO'd once, and that was in hist first ever fight. So he's got a great chin. And going into the fight he had won 10 of 11. Once Alvarez wins this tournament, hopefully him and Dana White can sit down and iron out a contract. He needs to be in the UFC, and there are some great fights there waiting for him. If not, let him at least sign with Strike Force and he can be the major star for that company. TFK
TFK, you have followed Eddie's career pretty closely, was there anything that happened in the past that kept him from being in the UFC? I guess I am talking more about the politics that go on with the UFC. Just curious, Alvarez is a young stud, usually the kind of guy the UFC jumps on.
I've been a fan of Alvarez since he first started. I used to go to see Ring of Combat at the Rex Plex all the time, and Euphoria\MFC in Atlantic City, so I saw all of his early fights in person. Even back then, he really stood out from everyone else. He was just dominant. And he had a HUGE following, for someone who's career was just beginning. Before the promotors smartened up, he would fight early in the card, and when his fight ended, about half of the crowd in attendance would leave, I guess to get an early jump on the long ride back to Philly. I don't know for sure, but from what I've heard, when the UFC first had interest in him, he was fighting for MFC, which was swallowed up by Bodog, and they were paying him much more than what the UFC offered him. And every time since then, he's been able to make more money for other promotions, Dream, EliteXC, etc, than what the UFC offered. He's been one of the few American fighters that has been able to make good money while never fighting for the UFC. I think if\when Alvarez wins the Bellator tournament, the UFC is gonna have to sign him and pay him what he's worth. Other than Fedor, he probably gets mentioned more than anyone else when people talk about fighters they want to see in the UFC. And with the UFC now going to Philly, it's just a natural fit. The live crowd in Philly would go absolutely f'n bonkers if Alvarez was fighting on a UFC PPV. The worst part is, a lot of the fighters who fought on those old ROC\MFC cards have ended up in the UFC, some more succesful than others. I saw Josh Koshcheck, Pete Sell, Luke Cuommo, Chris Liguori, Dante Rivera, Dan Christionson, Rich Clemente, Kurt Pelligrino, Wilson Gouvia, and others all fight on cards that Alvarez fought on. TFK
anyone can get KO'd anytime in MMA, its the nature of the sport. Like TFK said, Eddie is lucky he has a solid chin, cuz he does eat shots. I think the UFC lightweight division is perfect for Eddie. There aren't too many guys there with the striking power to KO Eddie with one punch. One of the best things he has going for him is his endurance, he gets rocked and recovers quickly, so if you do land on him your window is only open very shortly to capitolize on it. IMO, he needs to be fighting at 155.
