Unless Barrera has retired he's probably STILL No2 IMO. Razor close fight with Marquez and close-ish with Paq as well.

    He has retired.

He says he wants to come back this year though.

Barrera is old and retired with back to back losses. Not only that but I wouldn't pick him to beat any elite fighter at any weight class.

He is not a top 5 Mexican anymore. Neither is Morales while I'm at it so move on. :kick:

Morales says he wants to come back to, though not til next year.

If he'd spaced out his tough fights in his career like Barrera did, he'd probably still have more left in the tank.

If he would have gotten beat down by Junior Jones then he might have.

Close-ish with Pacman? Are you talking about the fight where he just turned up to survive, and lost almost every round? Or have they fought again since then?

Yep, but that will be against softies in lame "farewell fights".

May as well consider him retired as he's no longer relevant.

I would flip-flop Mijares and Margarito if for no other reason then Mijares hasn't lost in quite some time.

mijraes is arguably the best fighter in the top 3 best weight class in boxing right now.

unlike the marquez brothers, he's young and is at the top of his game.

he'll take care of business against another top fighter in munoz and claim the crown as the best mexican in the sport.

montiel is up there too in terms of talent, but his problem is consistency.

I can't remember that fight too well, it was boring as hell, but I think I had it 7-4-1 or such like. Might be wrong. It certainly wasn't a whitewash.:dunno:

Pac dominated. Barrera did not come to win, he came to survive.

It's hard to press the action against a purely defensive fighter. Pac did what he could to make the fight, but in the end it was relatively boring.

I call BS. Pac looked like a man who lost his hunger that night - or was bored. He didn't press MAB at all; it was like night and day between the first fight and the rematch.

In the end, the only losers were the fans who paid to see that sh*t.

We disagree on whether or not Pac pressed any action, but agree that it was a boring fight.

I think the only reason they made that fight was because they knew it was probably the last pay day they could milk out of MAB.

People talk about Mayweather-DLH being unnecessary, but for that rematch to be on the shelf for that long and then be made at a time when nobody wanted to see it and then have it go that way was pretty weak for all parties involved.

I remember the HBO crew really getting on MAB for the way he fought.

Maybe the best thing for MAB was for it to happen when it did, that way his seeming lack of effort could be excused in part on his age instead of just being unwilling to really fight Pacquiaio.

That seemed like almost the definition of those "unspoken pacts" that Teddy Atlas always talks about.

    Kinda like MAB-Tapia.

Mijares is at least as good as him.

If he beats Muños on Saturday he will have more claim as the man at 115

although clearly Montiel/Mijares are the best in the division. Until they fight each other they will both have claim as who is the best.

I dont think he is, but his resume is very solid. Montiel is the better fighter though, but some margin. Mijares is way too easy to hit and against a skilled fighter like Montiel, I think he loses pretty big. Possibly by KO.

Beating Castillo's left overs does not make Mijares the man over Montiel. Not by a long shot. It may have him ranked ahead of him, but there is no "man" there. So I agree with your last sentence completely.

I do think Montiel has the better claim though. Mijares' best wins are Arce and Munoz (will happen). Arce wasn't much of anything @ 115 and like I sad before, Munoz came to prominence because Castillo lost to Nobum and sjumped on the inexperienced kid.
