    Arrival came out last year.

I haven't seen enough films this year to give an educated answer, tbh. In fact, I've seen very few 2017 films.

I plan on seeing Dunkirk very soon.

I expect it'll be Dunkirk, yet to see it though.

Lion and T2 Trainspotting have been my favourites so far. Looking forward to seeing The Disaster Artist as well.

    You liked T2?

I loved Trainspotting. It's my #3 film of all time. I didn't watch T2 until a few months ago. I am still pisssed off about it. I thought it was a piece of shit and I had high hopes for it. Maybe too high.

Of the ones I've seen listed, 3 years later and with hindsight, I'd go:

    Dunkirk
    Logan
    War / Planet / Apes
    Arrival
    Get Out

    the rest.

Well, I wasn't going to argue with Slice's opinion just was interested in his opinion.

I had hopes of the sequel for Trainspotting being the best film of all time. Just thinking of all the angles they could take off the original. The first problem was the long delay because if the feud between Danny Boyle & Ewan McGregor. Trainspotting was released in '96 and was supposed to take place in '89. The sequel book was set in 1998 which meant the film would have been released in 2005. The 12 year delay meant the script had to be adjusted to the actor's ages. And the rewrite was shit.

The stop start plot was weak and I think Boyle knew that. Which resulted in even more than usual distracting Danny Boyle moments. A ton of flashbacks. Which to me said "okay this is shite, but just remember Trainspotting was a masterpiece."

The characters are not likable. Aside from Spud who maintains some charm. In the first film, they were dumb kids doing stupid shit. But you rooted for them to get through it. Now they're 40 year old scumbags. Begbie is despicable except for one moment at the end. Sick Boy is a useless, drugged up, weak piece of shit. Renton is a weasel who sleeps with his friend's woman. At 20 they can chalk this up to youth. At 40 or approaching 40 it's just scummy.

Maybe I'm too harsh because I expected too much. I don't know. Maybe I'll force myself to watch it again someday. I was so disappointed I fantasized about them remaking the sequel with either Michael Winterbottom or Shane Meadows directing and pretending that T2 never existed.

Sorry dude, didn't see your post. Yeah I thought it was good, I really liked the angle they went for with Spud, and the whole underlying theme of nostalgia. It was never going to get close to the first film which as you say was a masterpiece, but I felt they did a good job with it. Renton nicked all their money in the first film so it's not that surprising he banged Sick Boy's bird. Sick Boy shot up straight after his baby died in the first film, there was a precedent already there for being a useless, drugged-up piece of shit, and let's be honest here - Begbie was always despicable :Jest:.

If a sequel to a great film comes out, I always tend to approach it with trepidation as I don't want them to fuck it up. I came into this one with fairly low expectations, expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. Seems like you had the opposite approach, which again I understand as the first film was so good, but might explain at least some of the disappointment.

I'm a huge fan of "Trainspotting". "T2" didn't do it for me. It's not even that it was bad or that it sucked, but I remember looking forward to it, and when I finally got to watch it, within a week, it was completely gone from my head. I can't even remember the plot, other then it was somebody's funeral, and one last caper, blah, blah, blah......................I think.............or was that the first movie, LOL.
