Of course this is only in the days of PPV and not counting closed circuit. What fight or card was stacked and was free?? Easy one is Corrales/Castillo but it would be revisionist, but I don't think people were as hyped up as they should have been going in to the fight. I'd like to say Taylor vs Wright because Taylor was undefeated and Wright was the number one MW going in. The fight was great too.
Mayweather-Corrales comes to mind. That was regular HBO. Also it had Castillo-Bazan on the undercard, and that was a great fight.
I thought Castillo v Bazan was average...but the KO was sick. Chavez v Taylor. Barrera v Morales. Shit, too many. Most good fights aren't on PPV.
I thought it was a good fight up until the KO. It wasnt Corrales-Castillo or anythin, but it was exciting. Castillo pretty much beat his ass the whole fight though. And yes, that left uppercut was nasty!
Unless you love floyd or hate Corrales that fight was not great. It was a one sided beatdown. :warning:
I'm talking about matchups, not outcomes. Just on paper, what was the major fights that was free. Calzaghe/Lacy is on my list for good free fights. At least on paper ::
Mayweather-Corrales was a major fight within the boxing community. I didnt get much mainstream hype, but make no mistake, it was a big fight. Both were 23 years old, both undefeated, the two undisputed kings of 130. Floyd was a SLIGHT favorite, but I remember MANY people were picking Chico(including ME:eeeek: ). BTW- thats the only time I ever picked against Floyd.
Perhaps. But hard to knock the Pacq Barrera beatdown and Hopkins' Tito performance and Calz's Lacy performance. I'd probably lean pacq barrera over floyd corrales.
On paper? Mayweather-Castillo 2 and Klitschko-McCline was very good on paper for a regular HBO card. So was that heavyweight card in 1996. Tua-Ruiz Wilson-Briggs Golota-Nicholson Lewis-Ruddock and Espana-M. Taylor was on regular HBO back on Halloween night 1992.
Prince Naseem Hamed vs Kevin Kelley w/Kennedy McKinney vs Junior Jones on the Undercard... GREAT Non PPV Card... REED:bears:
Cotto vs. Torres..not a good fight on paper but turn out good... and Wlad vs. Peter on the same card...
Calzaghe-Kessler, Hatton-Tszyu, Forrest-Mosley, Mayorga-Forrest, Pavlik-Taylor, Tarver-Johnson, Wright-Mosley, etc. There's plenty of examples. The HBO Heavyweight Tripleheader (Holyfield-Czyz, Lewis-Mercer, Witherspoon-Gonzalez) was a pretty good event. Oh, and DLH-Forbes is a great non-PPV match-up.
It's big, but I'd take Calz/Kessler every time. To mE, that's pretty much as big as it gets. The only way it could be bigger is if I hated one of them.
