    (Actors/Actresses later) Just off the top of my head:

    Sidney Lumet - 1973-76

    * The Offence
    * Serpico
    * Murder On The Orient Express
    * Dog Day Afternoon
    * Network

    Fuckin hell, after that purple patch, you could forgive him for doing The Wiz in 1978!!

    Steven Spielberg! 1971-1993
    *Duel
    * Jaws
    *Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    * Raiders of the Lost Ark
    * Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
    *E.T. The Extraterrestrial
    *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    *Schindler's List
    *Jurassic Park

    and in between those 80's films he produced 'Gremlins', "The Goonies", "Back to the Future", "Poltergeist", "Who framed Roger Rabbit" and also co-directed 'The Twilight Zone". Spielberg was Hollywood's Energizer bunny! I am not including his first feature film 'The Sugarland Express' mainly because it was a box office flop and many people haven't seen it even though it is a very entertaining film.

    What about The Sugarland Express and 1941 - I thought both of those were good...

    Read my whole post. I mentioned why I didn't included The Sugarland Express. As for 1941...you might be the sole person in the planet that liked that stinker which is named as Spielberg's biggest mistake (I hated Hook too).

    I know I know - I remember the amazing poster for it, which was same as the book (which I bought).

    It is really bad. It is boring as hell and the only good joke happened in the opening scene, the rest fell flat. Spielberg went super duper excessive on the scope and forgot to give us a good coherent story.
