There was actually talk of Hagler-Benitez as well which would have progressed into a Fab Five but those talks fizzled after Benitez lost to Hamsho

Any fight discussed is a function of whom and when. Lewis/Tyson didn't mean half as much as it might have, had it happened sooner. SRL/Hagler is another example.

Don't be misled. If PBF/Pacquiao, for example, happens three years from now, or even ONE year from now, it won't be the same fight, it won't mean as much, if it happened THS year.

This of course applied to PBF/Mosley and PBF/ODH. It applies to ODH/Pacquiao (although there can be no realistic expectation this fight would've happened sooner but nontheless).

    RJJ/DM
    RJJ/Jirov
    PBF/Tszyu
    PBF/Margarito
    PBF/Cotto
    Holyfield/Golota
    SRL/Curry
    SRL/McCallum
    SRL/Pryor
    RJJ/Benn

RJJ probably has 3 or 4 of the biggest examples and Floyd a few more. Fuck reluctant hustler fighters.:shit:

    Robinson-Burley springs to mind. Sanchez-Arguello & Sanchez-Pedroza

I'm not saying it should have necessarily. All I'm saying is, given when it DID happen, it meant less.

I make the point that any given fight is a product of the Who and the When, and you ask me where I come up with this shit?

Not that you could possibly stomach it to look inside yourself and see where questions like these come from, but I am curious - what is the platform from which your position on everything comes from? Because it certainly isn't logic or reason.

It might not be up there with some of them, but Toney vs either Benn or Eubank would have been cool. Alas, the Benn-Eubank rematch ended up as a draw, because of that, and Barry Hearn's shrewdness, it never happened.

Either fight would have, at the very least, provided riveting build-up.

when Jones beat Ruiz, there was some serious talk about making Rjj-Lewis, that would have been huge

I would have loved it to see Jones unconscious and twitching on the ground... luckily i only had to wait a couple more fights for that to happen anyway

I would throw Floyd/Freitas into the mix. After Freitas beat Casa, that was the championship fight of the 4 man tournament that never happened.

I think the whole point of this thread is about fights that should have happened but didn't. Floyd / DLH was NEVER a fight that should have happened, there was no demand for it from mainstream or hardcore boxing fans, it was a nice surprise, but there was never a point earlier in DLHs career, closer to his prime, where this fight was talked about to any great length.

ie, Mythical Matchups do NOT qualify as biggest fights that never happened.

Do you mean fight were both fighters were set and ready but negotiations got in their way....

or fight where two fighters were on a collision course but another fighter broke up the party....

    Hamed vs. Mayweather...MAB
    Trinidad vs. Jones....Hops
    Cotto vs. Mayweather...MargaPlaster
Jones vs. MichalShitsky....seating at ringside for the Hill fight was it?
