Where are they? With Kimbo gone, the only black HW that I can recall in the UFC is Kongo, and he's a mere journeyman. Outside of the UFC, Bum Rogers is a bum, and the only good black HW in the WORLD is Overeem. Whats up with that? Blacks are represented modestly in the other divisions.... At LHW, you have the majority of the black fighters - Phil Davis, Jon Jones, Rampage, Rashad. At MW you have Anderson Silva, Gerald Harris, Jacare, Manhoef and Lombard. WW you obviously have Koscheck and Alves, Hieron, Daley, Woodley and Rumble. And LW you have an equal wasteland, with Guillard, Alvarez, Ben Henderson but at least theres some decent black prospects coming through, and at FW you have the top 2 guys IMO Flash and Aldo and of course lesser fighters like LC Davis. But whats up with HWs? Even the prospects at HW are basically limited to Tony Johnson Jr? Where's all the brothas at? The Afro-Brasilian line seems to stop in it's tracks at MW, and the Afro-American line is almost non-existent. Only the few Afro-Euros in Overeem and Kongo and a true African in Soakajew. :dunno:
Jon Jones comes from a football family and has the body of a football player but he chose MMA. Surely there should be some in the HW division.
Overeem, Rogers, King Mo fights both heavy and Light Heavy, Pat Barry is Mixed, Kongo, Nick Gaston, Gilbert Yvel, Randleman, Gary goodridge and you have to mention Bob Sapp::
Keep an eye on Afrozilla. He's a KOTC fighter who is 3-0, and just beat Darrell 'titties' Schoonover. Yeah, but Im not talking about shitty fighters like Sapp, Randleman and Yvel and of course, the disgrace that is Gary Goodridge. I mean actual good fighters. There's almost none outside of Kongo, a mere journeyman and Overeem, the best black HW in the world.
As a matter of fact, not only is Alves of mixed African heritage, 60% of the people from his hometown are. I could be wrong, he could be strictly an indigenous mix. But they were all but wiped out by the Europeans.
He's from Philly and went to Northeast. He's automatically black. I guarantee you he says the n-word from time to time.::
Most are. With the exception of the southern Indians and a few indigenous tribes in the southern hemisphere. They are easily distinguishable from the Africans though, obviously.
There is a huge number of indigenous people And their descendants in central/south America that aren't considered black.
And very many are mixed with African slaves, especially in certain countries(Brasil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Venezuela, etc).....Point?
My point is, Alves is of Amerindian descent. Not black. If you have ever actually been to the country and seen it's people, you may be able to tell the difference.
