Bob Arum Tells Floyd Mayweather, Schaefer: "Go To Hell!"

    By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, livid over the unconscionable demands of Floyd Mayweather Jr for pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao to undergo random blood tests as well as urine tests conducted by the US Anti Doping Agency before their planned March 13 fight told us late Wednesday morning, "is off as of now."

Arum made it clear that Pacquiao who has a phobia for needles and extracting too much blood which weakens him said he would gladly agree to have a blood test before the initial press conference and after the fight, plus urinalysis anytime he wants. What more? asked Arum.

Arum said "doctors will tell you that blood-testing is not even sure anymore and urinalysis is the state-of-the-art testing for drugs. But they don’t want the fight which is what I suspected from the beginning or they want to torture Pacquiao to throw him off his game.â€

The astute promoter said he told them “absolutely not. That’s where we stand and we are prepared to walk away. I’m not going to bully this kid and Freddie (Roach) is adamant about that point.â€

Arum said “they can go to hell as far as I’m concerned including (Richard) Schaefer although I don’t think its his idea. I think its Floyd’s idea and we are going to go on and do something else. This is an absolute outrage.â€

He said the Nevada State Athletic Commission under its highly respected executive director Keith Kizer is "beside themselves" over the Mayweather demands and said “their drug testing is the best in the world and its an insult to them.â€

Arum questioned the motives and asked “who is this ignorant, illiterate kid demanding this. Who is he? This has never ever happened in professional boxing.â€

Pacquiao, in a statement issued by his adviser Michael Koncz said he had always wanted athletes to serve as role models in every sport and to keep sports free from drugs and that he was willing to undergo tests as he has always done in the past and come clean. Koncz said “we wanted to do the fight because that’s what the people wanted but obviously Mayweather is scared and looked for a way out..â€

In an email to BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said “Olympic style drug testing is not one blood test 30 days before the fight and one after the fight. It is random drug testing which would include somnewhere between 3-5 blood tests and 8-12 u,rine tests taken during the period January 1 to March 15. Blood tests by the way are taken in a non-intrusive manner and are less than one tablespoon.â€

Arum mentioned several issues that arose during the negotiations day after day. He pointed out that Mayweather “had no intention of coming in at 147†which is the welterweight limit and then said he didn’t want to fight for the WBO title and we said okay, if you come an ounce over 147 you are going to pay us $10 million. Then this all started.â€

Pacquiao’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza responded to the Mayweather camps demand that the blood testing go all the way up to the weigh in saying it was “ludicrous†pointing out that “there is nothing that they are going to find 24 hours before the fight that they cannot find five minutes after the fight. We are not refusing to give blood, we are not willing to give it that close to the fight.â€

Ariza said he is convinced that Mayweather is “just posturing and the reality of the situation is Mayweather is looking for a reason to get out of this fight because Manny is going to give him the beating of a lifetime. He will sustain a beating that he never ever endured in his whole career in boxing. What he feels in his own small mind is that his legacy will go down being beaten by Manny Pacquiao.â€

    --------------------------------

    That's enough for me,...

Well, I never thought in my lifetime that I'd love one of Fraud's tactics,.. but this was great.

Who could possibly, possibly, have a problem with both fighters being heavily tested before thier fight?... wtf?.. ..it's like the bible of 'boxing rules' in my avatar exposes the devils, makes them hiss,.. well,..clearly this is a good time to observe which posters favor self-serving corruption.

Fraud has 'accidentally' set a good precedent for boxing, he has every right, to want to make sure his opponent isn't filled to the brim with juice,.. he's willing to do the testing aswell,.. it is not his fault that Pacquioa has been EXPOSED.

That's what you can talk about 20-30 years from now after the fight NEVER happens. That Pacquaio was exposed. CHILD please!Questions for you: What's the difference between blood and urine analysis in drug testing? How long does roids stay in your system without being detected?ANSWER those questions before you put out a STUPID statement like that. Mayweather has been feeding on IGNORANCE for years.

Do you know where your question would be better directed?... it's a by-proxy for all of us to find out,..

"The USADA procedure includes both blood and urine sampling so that all banned substances, some of which do not show up in urine alone, are tested for thoroughly."

The experts will give us all the most accurate answers possible,.. So why not find out,.. you clearly want to know,..so do I, so what's your problem with the strongest form of testing in the world?.. :dunno: are you aggravated by it?.. why's that?..

Do you know what percentage of positive testing for illegal substances show up in blood but not in urine testing? Mayweather could test Hatton's brother silly in his next fight and you'll be thinking that will be great for boxing.

Ofcourse it would, it's best to make sure that fighters are clean, it's as simple as that,.. both fighters would go through the exact same test. I can't see the problem.

You know I always thought you were a completley biased Floyd hater and here you are taking his side when it would have been so easy for you to stay the course and continue to ridicule and criticize his every move.

I'm not saying I agree with you, I'm just giving you props for your open mindedness.

Oh, now pacquiao is afraid of needles? fuck arum, let them be tested, afterall they don't take enough blood to weaken athletes, that's why they've been doing it for years, they know how much to take.

This is some backyard bullshit by the mayweather clan.

Most professional athletes are on steroids of some kind. Its one of thsoe things to create shit. its a total foxnews tactic. "Pacquiao doesn't wanna steroid test, isn't it obvious why?"

Nevermind that he's passed every drug test he's ever taken. Granted, Pac's probably on roids like everyone else, but its bullshit for mayweather, a disgusting peasant who retired and came back because nobody gave a shit about him now or ever.

    Its a bullshit media ploy.

If you think about the precedent it could set,.. say a genuine clean fighter requests mutual stringent drug testing before thier fight,.. this will be a way to flush out the many, many rats who refuse.

:crafty: ,....Everything else Fraud does however, has been structurally detrimental to boxing, and I'm a boxing fan first and foremost, when it was revealed that Margarito had suspicious material hidden in his wraps, I knew that this was not an ordinary occurance, and the prejudice from Fraud-groupies was warranted before the testing results came back, I think this is another one of those very suspicious incidents that alot of posters including some Pacquioa fans had suspected, and im not going to writh and twist and try to muddy the waters all because Pacquioa is popular and it ruins a temporary 'big fight' with lots and lots of money to be enjoyed by all, which in itself is the ultimate capitalists motivation.

Roach has said he doesn't mind drawing blood from his fighter at least 5 days BEFORE the fight and immediately after. They could test his urine 24-7. But Mayweather wants OUT of the fight.

If they keep this bullshit up Pacquaio won't stand for it, Mayweather gets what he wants, avoids Pacquaio and fights Mathew Hatton.

The frame of mind of the Mayweather camp is very TELLING.

it seems some of you losers would rather that the fight doesnt happen so that you can claim mayweather jr fears pacquiao intead of actually seeing the match occur to find out who proves to be superior.

i think mayweather is the one who wants that.

he wants the fight to be scrapped and pacquiao to look like he cheated. no reason to even bring this up. mayweather could have 39 fights on steroids also. him and pac took the same test for every fight. just because pacquiao has looked more spectacular doesnt mean he is more likely to be on steroids.

i think mayweather wins, but he is clearly in the wrong here.

Pac refuses to take drug tests because he is scared of needles (which he isn't) and it's Mayweathers fault because he is scared.

There is no reason he would want the fight to be scrapped with the money that is involved. That big boy mansion Floyd was showing off in 24/7 doesn't pay itself. Mayweather needs this fight to happen, he just wants to fight a clean Pacquiao.

They can test Manny the day before the fight......and they can test Usain Bolt the day before his next race, then they can go and do it it every other 2 bit athlete in the world too.

Fuck this....I am not having Manny Pacquiao held to a set of standards nobody else has to meet.

And people around here better start using IMPERATIVE language.

No more of this skirting the issue..."Egregious", like:nono::nono:

Actually, it was the bedroom that was Big-Boy.....the mansion, of course, is already paid for. Didn't you watch it, or were you too awestruck by Floyds bling and toilet-tv?

Floyd cannot have a fight with a "Clean" Pac.

    Its impossible.

Follow it down.....if Pac is roiding {he isn't but if he is} then he roided for all those big fights he won. Without those big fights, Pac vs Floyd {who is himself already lacking in big fights} means very very little indeed.

It is Pacs performance in the Marquez, Cotto, Oscar and Hatton fights that makes him the proposition he is. It takes two to tango, and Manny Pac can't half dance.

So Floyds hypothesis is wack, to begin with. Its like..."Ok, Roid for Cotto and Ricky, look real good, make it a great occasion that makes us millions each but be clean for when you fight me".

    Not good enough.

    Either ways, Floyd is caught.

The money Floyd makes off this fight, following Floyds own logic, is being amplified by steroid-enhanced wins for Manny Pac over Cotto, Oscar, Ricky.

He then wants Pac to abandon the very thing that helped make this fight.

    No. Sorry. Fuck that.

If Floyd was serious about this type of thing, he would have been doing it previously. He's just trying to fuck with Pacquaio and make him jump through Mayweathers' hoops: if Pac does it, he does it because Floyd demanded it---psychological advantage, Floyd. If Pac doesn't do it, Floyd tries to claim the moral highground and say Pac is cheating.

If Floyd was serious about this, it would have been an issue before they agreed to fight. Floyd's playing head games, but this time it might come back to bite him in the wallet.

Pac-Mosley would be a surefire slugfest. I hope it happens.

That's not what I was referring to although it is related, Reed. If Floyd was REALLY a proponent of Olympic drugtesting, then he would have been undergoing it all along and insisting on the same for his opponents. This is a headgame, straight up.

Like I said, either way it gives Floyd a psychological advantage. Pac is right to stay away from it. It's the biggest fight of Pac's career. Would YOU want people showing up and repeatedly interrupting your training camp whenever they feel like it?

Suspicions are one thing. Suddenly deciding to make your opponent have to jump through whatever hoops you want to put out there is a headgame.

So we're Supposed to just OVERLOOK the Sheer IMPROBABILITY of what Pac has Accomplished, ESPECIALLY in the Last 2 Years???....He's a Victim of HIS OWN Success, Buddy...Simple as that...

Shit, Floyd HASN'T Moved Up ANYWHERE NEAR as Many Weights as Pac has, yet the SIGNS of Moving Up R APPARENT on Floyd...His Handspeed is SLOWER, his MOBILITY has LESSENED, his KO % has DIPPED & he DOESN'T Throw as Many Punches...Conversely, Pac has Gotten BETTER as he's Moved Up...Pac was DECLINING @ 130, but he's RENEWED @ 140-147???...

Yes, Floyd is "Only" Doing this to Manny Pacquiao, but Name Another Candidate as SUSPICIOUS as Pacquiao???...

It's JUST a Series of BLOODTESTS, Buddy...All the "Headgames" Stuff is OVERBLOWN...Pac CLEARS his NAME & PRESERVES his Legacy by Going Thru w/the Testing...He DOESN'T Give Floyd ANY Psychological Edge Over him...Fuuuuuurthermore, it Takes a Matter of MINUTES for them to Draw Blood...So the "Interruption" of Pac's Training would B MINIMAL @ Best....& Floyd is Subjecting HIMSELF to the SAME Testing...He's "Jumping Thru" the SAME Hoops as Pac Would B...

I think it makes sense to have olympic athletes thoroughly tested for steroids using the best methods possible. After all, some asshole might throw a rock 4 1/2 inches farther or run .003 seconds faster than he otherwise would have.

But, in a sport where it is very possible to kill your opponent through physical prowess, it doesn't make sense to test for steroids as thoroughly as reasonable. I can come up with all kinds of really, really, really strong arguments to support this position, but I'll sit back and let my fellow like-minded posters go to town for me on this issue.

So because Pacquiao is better than your precious Floyd, he should have to go through a battery of tests to prove it?

Pacquiao represents everything great about boxing; Floyd represents everything wrong with it.

You're moving off to different points of contention and not debating my point, Reed.

In simple terms, Mayweather has never pulled this stuff with any of his opponents before. Floyd didn't pull this stuff with Corrales, DLH, Gatti, Castillo or any of his previous opponents. If he really cared about this type of testing, he wouldn't just introduce it at this late point in time.

If it was a real issue, he would have requested it before the fight was even made. That would have been negotiated and decided one way or the other. As of now, it looks like psychological warfare or an attempt to kill the fight.

Keep in mind, I'm positive that Floyd beats Pac, and I also prefer a fight with Mosley...but this fight was a done deal and now Floyd is trying to change things.

If he had been serious about this style of Olympic testing from the very beginning, it would have been a stipulation to make the fight. If Pac had said no THEN, I would have been much more suspicious. If Mayweather had been serious about this type of Olympic testing, he would have done it in every big fight previous.

Tacking it on after the fight has been made is bogus. Why should Pacquaio have to inconvenience himself?

If I agree to a fight, and I follow the preparation and testing as I have for every other fight, why should I have to suddenly change my plans when the fight is a done deal.

7-10 blood tests and 7-10 urinalysis interruptions in my training camp just prior to the biggest fight of my life just because my opponent decided he now wants it this way at this juncture? I would expect Pacquaio to be pissed off, and if Floyd were really serious about this style of testing, I would expect him to have insisted on this LONG before now.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is very clever. Floyd insisting at this late stage looks rather suspect.
