Postponed. Ortiz has an undisclosed illness.

What's up with Virgil Ortiz? This kid seems sickness and injury prone.

Looks like the fight is off, not just postponed. Fucking sucks.

Yeah, at this point, I don't know why Ortiz doesn't just go to 154.

Verg is a BIG Welter By Today’s Standards, a Hair Under 6’ Tall and Just 25 Years of Age…

More Importantly, and as REED’s Pointed Out in the Past, Verg Sr. is Like 6’2 and a Solid 190-200lbs…Point Being, Verg Jr. Has the CAPACITY for Growth…

What’s SAD Is He’s Had 19 Bouts in 2 Weight Classes Now, w/NO Hardware or Even a SHOT @ a Jr Welter/Welter Title to Show for It…

Glad that Vergil is healthy and that it's back on. Would have been a shame to lose a young talent to chronic illness.

I still reckon that Verg stops Stan mid-to-late in a war.

I can’t see Stanionis winning. He’s a good solid fighter, but basic. I see Vergil breaking him down.

Agreed. I was hoping for someone like Butaev or even Avanesyan.

Who do you want him to fight?

This guy fought on the same card as his last fight. The plan was obviously to match ennis vs ellis, but this guy dropped ellis twice in the last round and got the decision. He is 26-1 with 24kos

Ah! When You Mentioned Villa Dropping Ellis Twice, it Sparked REED's Memory...

Tank-Hector Luis Garcia Card...Boots Fought a Man Named KAREN in the Co-Main...

REED's Seen Villa Fight; He's Nowhere NEAR as Negative as KAREN Fought, vs. Boots...@ Least Villa Didn't Fight That Way vs. Ellis, That Is...Villa was Actually Getting IN Ellis' Ass, Late in that Fight...

REED's Complaint was from a STYLISTIC Perspective...Don't Match Boots w/Guys Who Flat Out REFUSE To Open Up or Sustain ANY Level of Appreciable Offense...Whether He's Just a "Guy" or Not, You Can FIND Someone That Will Come to FIGHT, @ Least...

Would you guys prefer I merge one thread to discuss both the Boots & Ortiz fights next weekend, or keep the two fights in separate threads?

Fight week for two of the more exciting young cats in the sport. Obviously, Ortiz-Stan is the better and more debatable matchup, but Boots-Villa is compelling as well.

I would expect both guys to win via stoppage - but Ortiz in a later and more competitive stoppage.

Team Ortiz needs to quit lying to itself, cut the shit, and move to 154

Ohhh FUCK ME! I give up on this kid. He's a good talent, but he's not some generational talent to be continually believing in.

You keep citing the weight, but its obviously deeper than that. Young guys push the limits of making weights they're outgrowing ALLL THE TIME. Its typical. Usually a 25, you can get away with it. We've been following the sport long enough to know that Ortiz's situation is atypical.

Ortiz's health might force him to retire. I don't think it's a matter of simply weight cutting.

And best case scenario, even if his health improves at 154, there's no guarantee his firepower is as impactful at 154. I could see Timmy Tszyu being too strong for him. In fact, I think Tim Tszyu would be too strong for him.
