How many boxers have their own gyms? Why don't boxers have their own gyms? Guys like DLH,Pac,Mayweather can afford to buy some shitty building a put a few heavybags/speedbags/ring..etc..etc.. in them..and just train there.. why train with everyone else in a packed gym like Cotto,Hopkins,Toney,etc....? OR reserve the gym in the afternoons for themselves like DLH....:dunno:
It would be dumb to have your own gym and then have nobody but yourself train in it. You're basically paying rent for something that's being used four months out of the year. Oscar had a compound at Big Bear that he sold to tito ortiz. When fighters go off to camp, for the most part, they're working out alone. Like where Manny Steward takes his fighters in the poconos. Part of their resort fee is to have the gym for themselves....but there's never really two camps there at the same time anyway.
Arben - ILLU didn't say rent, he said buy. I agree with him, I don't see why not. They do have enough money to buy some shitty building, have it done up as a gym, and then they don't have to pay any rent, AND it's an investment. With rising property prices and the fact that it would now be a gym, if they wanted to sell it in a few years they'd make a healthy profit. It's not a bad idea.
Rising property prices, . I guess you don't live in Southern California. Anyway, I think they should buy it. I always thought you should have regional gyms run by fighters. Fighters should be marketed both individually and as a team. Oscar could run a SoCal gym; PBF a gym in Vegas or Michigan.
No, England. In the last decade property prices rose in southern England by around 400% in a lot of parts, and only now they've fallen slightly, but by very small amounts like 5%. Are prices falling in California?
Yeah. It is ridiculous here anyway. In 1978 my family purchased a small rather ordinary house for 80,000. It at one point was worth 900,000 as of 2006. People were offering that for the family homestead. Now, in the same neigborhood they are selling for 675,000 to 750.000. Keep in mind, this is not a great neighborhood. It isn't bad but it is just rather ordinary. In a way, I am glad the bottom fell out. It had to. You can't pay 35 dollars for a hamburger because everyone else is. People overpaid for 20 years and now they have to answer. So Cal is overrated. The weather is the best in the world, but now it is too overpopulated and too many people are always a bad thing. Sorry for the rant.
I know Mosley has his own boxing gym. I'm not sure if it's at his home or in Big Bear or both but I know he has his own.
I think fighters like to be around other fighters. The Top Rank gym in Vegas is the most popular spot.
rumor has it you were brought in as a sparring partner for kobayashi. instead of the top rank gym these "battles" took place nearby, down Industrial @In-N-Out.
