<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Bjl903VKbFg?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> I think Steven Sackur is appropriately named.
Uuuuh, YEAH... On ALL Levels, Boxing is SLEAZY...It's Called the "Red Light District of the Sports World" for a REASON... REED:hammert:
Hardtalk's an impossibly fucking stupid program. Lets get guests on with absolutely zero clout inside the UK, who very few viewers know anything about and instead of helping the viewer gain an outline of their views/the issues inside their country lets GRILL them, interrupt them, provoke them, lead them into traps that you jump on generally act like a cunt. Pointless, pointless faux-crusading crap.
Well I am not sure I agree. The guy says boxing is a "famously sleazy sport". Yes it is. But who made it "famously" so. The media, movies, etc?? Over here, we just had a massive, absolutely huge scandal with the most famous horse-racing stables in the World, namely Godolphin. It is barely getting a mention in the papers. Loads of other much smaller sporting stories are getting pumped up, but the horses are going under the radar, despite horse-racing being a billion dollar sport, much much bigger than boxing. Boxing is a much smaller sport than horse racing.
I agree. Name another boxer who would sumbit to that type of stuff. Vitali does quite well considering that English isn't even his 2nd language. Can you see Mayweather or Choof sitting through 30 minutes of Steven Sackur without Sackur checking into Harley Street the following day? ::
The MOB (the CRIME Family, NOT the Poster) has Been Affiliated w/Boxing Almost from Inception...Hell, Marquis of Queensberry was Probably "Sleazy" Too... For as Much Flack as Don King Gets, Bob Arum's AS SLEAZY...Golden Boy???...Sleazy...HBO????...Sleazy... MODERN ERA Boxing has NEVER Lacked SLEAZE... REED:nono:
Agreed. I stopped watching about 3 minutes in. Felt like it was going to be a Jim Gray kind of interview but for much longer.
You should watch it all. Calls the guy a steroid cheat at one point and then asks where his money comes from, and are there not questions to answer about how much money he has. I had no end of fun watching it and imagining how any other fighter of similar stature {Haye, Mayweather, Tyson} might respond.
Boxing is the COMMON MAN'S Sport...BLUE COLLAR Sleaze is Always Deemed Worse than White Collar Sleaze...NOT Fair, but it Is what it Is... When Bernard Hopkins Robbed People of Petty Cash, he Wound Up in Graterford Prison...But when "Suits" in Boxing ROB Fighters Out of MILLIONS, there's NO Repercussions...It's Labeled "Astute Business", but it's STILL Sleazy... To your Point, there's DEFINITELY Sleazier Sports...Hell, REED Thinks the Way the NCAA PROFITS Off the Name & Talent of Collegiate Athletes, While PENALIZING those Same Athletes for Soooo Much as a DINNER they Didn't Pay For, is SLEAZY...In the NFL, America's NEW Past Time, Contracts ARE NOT Guaranteed...An NFL Owner can Sign a Guy, Pay him his Signing Bonus & CUT him the FOLLOWINGfuckingDAY, w/No Repercussion...That's SLEAZY as Hell to REED, yet you Have "Sports" Fans that Get Pissy when PLAYERS Hold Out for More Money... Because Boxing has ALWAYS Been Deemed the "Red Light District", it's the EASY Scapegoat for the Media...Look No Fuuuuurther than the Bostom Marathon Bombings...Boxing's Actually Been Pondered as a REASON for the Attacks... REED:boohoo:
Maybe the defense attorney will use it. If OJ was found guilty his team probably would have used the hard hits he took in football as mitigating circumstances for sentencing.
Ever watched the show before mate? He's usually worse. They'll get some south african union leader or outsider economist on and dress them down as if they're courageous journalists. It's total wank.
Nah, it'd have Been a Result of the BOXING Movie OJ Filmed, Called "Goldie & the Boxer".... REED:hammert:
Yeah this interview was on in the office when it was first broadcast. Can't say I'm a fan of Hardtalk myself
No, the guy is familiar but I can't say I have. I like the idea and similar type programs but 'shooting fish in a barrel' is pointless
Hardtalk is absolute bish. I've always wanted to go on, just so I could grill that cunt and then punch his kidneys out. MTF
"bish" :: If boxing is ever going to throw off its label its going to need more fighters who can sit in front of a dummy like Sackur and straightbat the cunt all night. Mike does well here: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NQUtuc0TUdw?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It's on the radio here once or twice every week before my show starts. We either run a BBC Doc or some Hardtalk at 5:30am. It's garbage.
Sackurs interviews with Oliver Stone on the matter of Wall Street, Hugo Chavez, etc, was pretty decent. Stone actually did quite well for himself, even going so far as to compliment the research department of the BBC when stung by some of the angles the questions were being asked from.
In may ways yes, but it always, and perhaps uniquely for fringe-sports, has the ability/potential to swing back into the mainstream on a moments notice.
