"Reliable Sources" Leak Oscar's Big Announcement Tuesday Posted by Boxing Socialist Admin on March 3, 2012 at 10:41pmView Blog By Shawn Craddick As we all know, Oscar De La Hoya has been going around letting the people know that he has a big announcement for this coming Tuesday. This big announcement is suppose to shake up the Boxing World. What good would a big announcement be if it didn't shake up Toprank and Bob Arum? Oscar has made his presence known every since he started Goldbenboy Promotions and securing alot of fights on HBO. Now he is about to strike another Major Deal. According to "Inside Sources" Oscar De La Hoya has SECURED a Two Year deal to hold fights at the New Nets Center in Brooklyn, NY. On top of that, he is close to having a Network TV Deal. This would put Oscar and Goldenboy Promotions on front street. It would be like throwing a body blow to Bob Arum. We are hearing that the Head of Showtime Sports is an ex G employee. Showtime is going to probably cross market boxing on CBS and other sister networks. This is all hear say for now but it seems like logical business moves. Time will tell and if true, Oscar will reveal it this coming Tuesday. Talking about dominating the sport, this will catapult him to the top. If your not signed with Goldenboy Promotions, then what are you waiting for?
Gil sucked. Boxing on CBS will probably suck. Look what's happening to Vs...again. If boxing on CBS had some quality control, it might be worth getting excited about, but it won't. As if CBS is any more 'free' than ESPN2 or even HBO for that matter. Stroke Stroke...free! tv.
I've never heard of that site, but apparently they are as far behind in the news as is Fightbeat. The headline is a lie because nothing is leaked that wasn't already news. It was reported long ago that Golden Boy secured a deal with the Barclays Center (and someone might want to tell this guy that Golden Boy and Top Rank are two words each). The series landing on CBS is pure speculation. The fact that they've "heard" that the Showtime head is an ex-Golden Boy employee means they haven't been paying any attention for the past four months.
Boxing needs to return to network tv, but I fear that when they get their chance it will complete SUCKS. Bunch of boring fighters in mismatches Fights involving completely irrelevant fighters. WORST of all boring irrelevant fighters fighting each other... Fat Heavyweights. Promoters will get BIG money from the network to showcase good fights, but the promoters will put out SHIT, pocket most of the money, after 4-5 months once it's clear the ratings SUCKS and the network close up shop promoters will blame everyone but themselves.
Boxing with commercials. What could be better. I am sure there will be fights that normally would be on ppv for free.
