Did anyone rise and crash as fast as lopez? He was viewed as a top prospect (even though the only decent fighter he beat was Comney) when he upset a guy many rated as p4p # 1, and seems on his way to dominate boxing for a while, only to lose to a total unknown the fight afterward.

A guy like Buster Douglas doesnt apply since while he lost just after scoring a tremendous upset, everyone knew it was kind of a fluke and that he was.on borrowed time

A rise and fall hasn't occurred quite as fast as Lopez's, I must admit.

Not as quick as Lopez's, but Donald Curry fits the bill.

Depends what you mean by fall really, I still think Lopez can come back. If we are using Lopez as a standard then maybe Loma could be included.

Douglas had also been about a bit and shown a sort of failed unfulfilled promise at times.

Breidis Prescott seemed destined after he beat Khan in stunning fashion.

But hes lost like 11 of his last 12 I think

Always felt Prescott wouldn't amount to much, even though it was a brutal win. For a start he focused way too much on it, I think he even changed his nickname to 'Khanqueror' or something. Khan to his credit regrouped and had a good career, Prescott basically tried to live off that one win.

Yeah i agree. But for a moment it just looked like he was a major threat suddenly emerged from the long grass.

Although not thought of as highly as some of previously listed fighters there's Nicholas Walters. Undefeated and with big knockout victories against Darchinyan and Donaire. Gets schooled against Lomachenko and is never heard from again.

The other Lopez, Juan Manuel, was getting the next Tito hype-train until a brutal divorce and a gambling-addicted referee stopped his ascension

Curry's welterweight reign was too long to consider him a shooting star.

Yeah, he would quality. He was really only excellent in the Chandler fight. That win was a perfect combination of Sandoval being at his best, and Chandler being a washed up cokehead.

    I would add Vivian Harris.

Seems crazy to believe now, but rewind back to 2004, and Vivian Harris was considered by most to be the favorite over Hatton and Cotto, and the biggest threat to Tszyu.

He did smash Hurtado in 2, when Hurtado was coming off a stoppage win over "3 time champ" Bailey.

He also beat Urkal twice, and stopped him, which Tszyu wasn't able to do.

Jeff Left Hook Lacy. Former Olympian with an insane left hook. He looked like he was headed for bigger things until Calzaghe gave him a beating and his career went down hill. To a lesser degree Vargas was never the same after Tito and neither was David Reid another former Olympian(gold).

Livingstone Bramble seemed to be going in the right direction when he beat Ray Mancini twice for the LW title until he ran into Edwin Rosario. He was never the same fighter after that loss to Rosario.

Zhanat Zhakiyanov won the unified BW title against Warren, and then lost to Burnett the very next fight.

The golden age of fight world/fightbeat when the site had its own champion in residence (kind of) because of the Jake Donovan connection. Good times. He was even mentioned among those who would match up well against Mayweather.

no, but many years ago in the early 2k I used the yahoo boxing chat and we had a boxer who went by the name of Lawrence Tureaud. I don't know much about him but I heard he had a good boxing career in the '80s.

Yes, i guess he qualifies. Had a longer run at the top than lopez (at least for now) but he crashed hard.

Though he did had a decent little comeback after crashing

Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite, wasnt exactly a superstar and didnt exactly lose his unbeaten status to an unknown, but he was one of two top cruiserweights but lost nearly every fight after he lost his 0

But he had some wins. They were shaky wins, don’t get me wrong but considering his limitations, he had a longer reign than he should have.
