Calzaghe woulda slapped the shit outta him. It's a WW vs a SMW, I don't see why Tito would even have a chance.
Tito still had power at 160, i think he could have carried it to 168. And he had great accuracy. Now, could he have make it a matter in that matchup? Thats a whole other question
Tito's power went from ATG at 147, to very good at 154, to above average at middle. I can't see it being much better, if at all, at 168. And even if it was the same, it'd be nowhere near Kessler, Brewer, Eubank or Reid. I don't see a way to argue a Tito win based off his power, and I see even less of a way to argue it based off winning on points.
His power was well above average at 160. The way he destroyed Joppy was highly impressive, and going in no one expected him to take out Joppy in that fashion.
Disagree, Joppy was nothing special and even if Tito was a colossal puncher at 160, there's no guarantee that'd translate if he went up further, and no chance that it'd translate to hitting harder than Eubank, Reid, Brewer, etc. No welterweight outside of maybe Burley and Robinson beats Calzaghe.
No offense, but its easy for you to say that now with 20-20 hindsight. Going into the fight, there was no one on these forums or in the media who expected Tito to destroy Joppy in 5. In fact, there was a lot of talk going in that Tito had bitten off more than he can chew. So while it seems now that yeah, it was just Joppy, that wasn't the sentiment going in.
I don't think that should matter. In hindsight, it was 'only Joppy'. Joppy being seen as an elite fighter at the time doesn't mean I have to rate the win highly. Regardless, I feel like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Trinidad still wouldn't hit as hard as Reid and Brewer did at 168, I think it's safe to rule out any scenario with Tito KOing Calzaghe.
Agreed with x . Tito power at 160 was insane. Even against Cherifi, who was a fairly sturdy fighter, he dropped him as soon as he touched him. Im pretty sure his power would have been great st 168
Look, I'm not saying Tito didn't hit hard at MW. I'm saying he wasn't a big enough puncher I'd expect you be if you were to move up another weight class and be a considerably harder puncher than the four I named. Since none of those guys had Calzaghe in any major trouble.
I think Trinidad would hit harder than Kessler at any weight. Wouldn't matter tho. Joe is too big for Tito to win.
I think crowcofts opinions offer an interesting perspective since he watches all these fights from an unbiased position since he wasnt around during these eras Lets face it. This here is a complete mismatch posed by the mongrel
Tito has little to no chance against Calz. My only point was that Tito could still bang very well at 160. No one did that to Joppy - not before or after.
