What... I don't know what to make of this. Is this a state body taking a stand for some greater good, or are they just being stubborn and actually undermining the quality of the results? The only way I'd be able to form a full opinion is to know who the judges are in the running from both sides, and what experience those judges have in title fights.
Instead of Being HAPPY to have 2 World Title Fights, the Mississippi Commission is MILKING their 5 Minutes of Fame for All it's Worth... This Happens from Time to Time w/the SMALLER Commissions...A Few Years Ago, the Florida Commission Did this EXACT Same Thing when Roy Jones Fought Mike McCallum... It was Bullshit THEN & it's Bullshit NOW... REED:hammert:
agREED... Unless it's Vegas, Atlantic City or MSG, the LOCATION of a Boxing Match is IRRELEVANT... Mississippi Should Just SHUTthefuckUP & B Happy Somebody OTHER than Roy Jones is Actually Bringing them a World Title Fight... REED:hammert:
agree when else has it happened? I knew the Roy time, but that's the only one I know of. Surprising that it took down to your post before someone pointed that out.
So let me get this straight. There will be two sets of judges scoring the fight? What happens if they don't come to the same conclusion? How screwed would that be? Will there be two sets of judges for ALL of the fights on this card?
if the wbc gets their way, then it will be just for their fights (for which there are two). But the commission is threatening criminal charges if they score the fight while not licensed in Mississippi. Anyone involved in a show can get a temporary (assignment) license on the spot, with your real license to come weeks later. But if you're just applying for one, then you have to wait. IF Sulaiman is smart, he'll appoint three judges that are already licensed in Mississippi and by the WBC. This way, they can still attend (since the WBC is providing tickets for them) and they can still score the fight o/b/o the WBC. The only controversy will come if they pick a different winner than the local commission. Say the WBC judges decide Bradley won, yet the MS judges have Cherry winning. The official record books will show a win for Cherry, yet Bradley will still remain champion according to the WBC - regardless of which cards are closer to the truth.
I want to know why they are fighting in Biloxi. Don King does a great job putting fights in the wrong location.
Sort of. The WBO kept Barrera as its champ after he got robbed against Morales 1. I think it's happened in another fight, too, but I can't place it.
This sounds terrible. I can't believe I have to be on the side of the sanctioning bodies, but...well, here we are. I wasn't aware of the Jones-McCallum issue. How does Mississippi plan on getting any more decent cards to come their way with punk moves like this???
The WBC needs to man up and withdraw their sanctioning of the bouts. It's that easy; it's that hard. (to quote an Unforgiven song)
