How do you see current Canelo Alvarez faring against a tough and crafty LHW like Victor Galindez? Both are practically almost the same size and are known to be versatile fighters and clever counterpunchers. Think this would have been an interesting match up.
Canelo would have to beat Beterbiev before we entertain his chances against the light heavy ATGs. Let's not forget that he was down on the cards against a totally shot Kov.
Canelo pressuring Galindez like he did Plant winds up with him getting countered like fuck. Not only could Galindez create a similar shell like Plant, but he was great off the ropes and wouldn't limit himself to just a jab and the odd right hand. He's smarter than Canelo is, and a better feinter. He'd be the one leading Canelo in, and the one who sets him up. Galindez wouldn't just stay on the ropes, hopeless. He'd be throwing right back and loving it. And in a fifteen round fight, a Canelo adjustment where he tries to counter leads to Galindez going after him like he did Kates and giving Canelo a beating in the late rounds.
No reason to pick Canelo here. Even if the size difference is negligible - and it is, Canelo weighed more than Kovalev did on fight night, and Kovalev was enforced to have a 10lbs rehydration limit, making Canelo 185ish - Galindez is just a better fighter.
