It's either gonna be Smith or Saunders. I don't think anybody else is seriously in the running.

It was just announced that Benavidez will be fighting Caleb Truex next, and Canelo is not facing Andrade or Golov next.

Canelo ain't winning that one if it's best of five top of the key.

I dont care to see alvarez vs any of those options aside from benavidez or maybe smith

Sanders would be my last choice

Benavidez definitely isn't in the plans for Canelo anytime in 2020.

After Benavidez thrashes Truex, then PBC's plan is obviously a Benavidez-Plant unification in late summer or early fall.

You can blame Canelo for a lot, but picking easy opponents isn't one of his sins

Has he still not confirmed an opponent?! I want it to be Saunders but Billy Joe is a diva and I have my doubts if it'll be him next.

I don't like Saunders, the guy is a twat. He's also frustratingly inconsistent. If he is on, he can beat Canelo. Anything less than 100% he gets beat though.

I'm not sure that even an "on" Saunders beats the Ginger.

While Canelo hasn't fought a quality southpaw in 6 years (since Lara) the fact is that Saunders is nowhere near as talented as a prime Lara, and Canelo is now more seasoned than he was in 2014.

Of all the guys being mentioned, the only two with a realistic chance of beating Canelo are Benavidez and Andrade.

Admittedly, Andrade is probably too much of a goof, and would blow it.

Saunders is the front runner to land the fight it seems.

To me, Callum Smith made more sense.

Seems like hearn has most of the opponents and is squeezing more money out of Alvarez

Even if saunders legitimately stinks out a win vs Alvarez, you think he'd get more than 3 rounds on any card?

    Absolutely not.

You gotta kill the Ginger just to lose a SD.

So, although nothing is confirmed yet, one writer is reporting from "very good sources" that'll it be Callum Smith - he claims the fight has been agreed on for May 2.

I'd be happy if it's true - i have no interest in seeing BJS run all night.

Callum would be an excellent opponent. He is the recognized #1 in 168 and stylistically difficult for Canelo, even though he looked awful in his last outing.

Also, even though I don't think Canelo benefits from his promotion as much as it's claimed, it doesn't hurt Smith's chances to be a well-respected Matchroom fighter either

Wow. I was hearing it would be BJS. I'll be happy with either one - bjs or smith. Both acceptable opponents imo.

Recognized as #1 at 168 by WHOOOOOOOM?

He just got his ass kicked by Ryder!

Plant and Benavidez would mop the floor with Smith. #1 supermiddle my ass.

I expect Canelo to take Smith apart.

    Hopefully not.

I don't wanna see birth mark face in any big fights.

By The Ring, for example, who have him as The Champ.

Yes, The Ring isn't perfect and certainly not as respected as the rankings of Mr Xplosive, but if Canelo takes on him and beats him, it is quite an accomplishment

Do either Plant or Benavidez have a win on their records better than George Groves? Genuine question, I haven't followed Plant closely enough and I know next to nothing about Benavidez.

You're a forever Canelo apologist. It's a solid win if he beats Smith (which I very much expect him to do) but "quite an accomplishment"?

Easy there, it's Callum Smith not Lomachenko.

I could care less that The Ring (owned by Oscar) ranks a DAZN fighter over two PBC fighters.

    How gullible are you?

Plant has beaten absolutely nobody, unless you believed Uzcat was a thing but i always knew he was bummish. As for Benavidez, I don't think Dirrell is as good as Grove (especially that version of Dirrell) but I guess it's debatable

Groves fought Smith with a bum shoulder and already had one foot in retirement.

None of the guys at 168 have really fought anyone.
