Still need to see more from Canelo, but at this point I'd make Froch the slight favorite, his long jab being the key element. Canelo has evolved as a fighter however and is pretty good in finding ways to victory
I hate both, so you know my answer is gonna be objective - I would take Canelo. Froch was a helluva lot better than Smith, and would perform a lot better, but I see Canelo exposing Froch's many defensive liabilities and countering between his shots. Unlike Smith, who did nothing more than cover up, Froch would open more, which would mean him getting hit cleanly more often. I dont think Froch gets stopped, but I think he gets KD once along the way, and drops a decision.
Froch. Canelo wouldn't deal well with that jab. Canelo looked pretty inept against old Kovalev stick, and froch would put a lot more mustard behind it
Canelo has the better technique for sure, but as JoM alluded, Froch was an intelligent fighter who was very good in finding ways to win too. Against Abraham, everybody expected an explosive fight, yet Froch clowned him with his skills and jab. He couldn't catch Dirrel at all, yet found a way to sneak a decision. Kessler had much the better technique but Froch was able to keep it close and win on second try by brawling. Half into the fight Froch figured out how to beat Taylor, and he did. He walked all over Bute, who was a cute boxer and the favorite going in. Even against Ward, where Froch was almost outclassed in skill and speed, he finished strong and took 4-5 rounds. Froch made a helluva career and he might be one of the very rare examples of "intelligent but not technically sound fighters". Canelo might beat him, but Froch has s very good shot based on the Kovalev fight
Canelo himself is pretty intelligent in there, and just has more tools as his disposal. Let's not go overboard here about this Froch jab - his jab wasn't incredible, and it's not fair to compare Canelo to a brainless guy like AA. I would add, because I didn't mention it before, but Froch was vulnerable to the body. Could definitely see Canelo hurting him there. I just see Canelo with more ways to beat Froch than vice versa. I think Froch was underrated for so long, that in 2020 he's now vastly overrated.
