Monzon could beat his meat, his wife, and Nando at the same time.

Dont laugh. Nando's jab, and physical strength would give Monzon hell. Plus Vargas is a better infighter than Monzon was, and is meaner. I'm not saying its a one sided fight, but the Vargas that beat Quartey beats Monzon 10-5 in a 15 rounder. Monzon lacks Tito's power, and Oscar's speed.

Trinidad was affected by 9/11. Yeah i know it hadn't happened yet, but something of that magnitude takes things out of you regardless.

Against Quartey and Wright Vargas demonstrated he can overcome any kind of jab so that takes away one of Monzon's best assets. Monzon also struggled quite a bit against old midgets such as Griffin and even Napoles for a while, prime Vargas was tougher than either of them. Also Vargas was probably the stronger man and like said before, Monzon doesn't have the edge in speed and movement to stay away from Vargas, which means its a near-suidice

When I first read this thread I thought it was a joke, but some of you guys actually think Vargas would beat Monzon? Vargas has never beaten anybody of Monzon's caliber, the same can't be said for Carlos.

Monzon is awkward and I know sometimes it appears that he could easily be outboxed or bullied.
However history tells a different tale. Appearances can be decieving.
Monzon was always able to win and I suspect he would beat Vargas just as well.
I can see though how some people might be thrown off by his awkward abilities and would pick against him because of the way he looked at times.
It's very hard to gauge Monzon in MM matches because of his style.

Right off the bat I'm ready to pick Calzaghe on points over him and maybe Kessler as well. A young Hopkins , Roy , and others.
However Monzon is so strange in MM matches , I could be wrong on all picks.
He is really the type of fighter that if the fight never happend , don't bother picking uless the opposition in question is lower then an equal level or an obvious win for Monzon.

I didn't think it was really serious though I wasn't sure.

However , anyone that has seen Monzon fight knows how sloppy and awkward he could look.
Thats why I could understand MM picks against him even if I don't agree with them.
