HELLUVA matchup! I'd take The Hawk though. Ortiz was a fighter that was very good at EVERYTHING, but not really special in one area. Pryor was a special talent. For all Ortiz's great skill, and great boxing mind, at the end of the day he didnt have NEAR the firepower of Arguello. I think he gives Pryor a very good fight, and scores alot with counterpunches, but Pryor in the end would be too quick, too strong, too active, and have too much firepower for Ortiz. Pryor TKO 13. I'd give Ortiz a better chance at beating Chavez, and Arguello, than I would at beating Pryor.
at 140, Pryor... it seemed a bridge too far for Ortiz who struggled at times there, even against pretty ordinary world-ranked fighters like Duillo Loi Good fight, but Pryor's greater fire power tells the story and he wins a clear decision, pummeling a survival-mode Ortiz in the late rounds hard to really rate the Hawk as a lightweight, as he spent only his formative years there... but Ortiz was a great lightweight, could be a very different story
I dont see how you can say that... are you telling me that Carlos Ortiz was the same guy at 140 that he was at 135???
One of Ortiz's best performances was against Battling Torres, for the jnr wleter title. He was a BIG lightweight. I guarantee you that if Ortiz was around today, he'd be the type to come into the ring weighing 150. Pryor was a beast at 135 or 140. Ortiz accomplished more, and had more longevity, but its my personal opinion that theres only two guys from 135-140 that beat a prime Pryor.... Whitaker, and Duran.
Ortiz a great boxer who would win some rounds and some exchanges, but too one-paced for Pryor. Pryor by wide points or a battered Ortiz pulled out on his feet in 11 rounds. Gibola
great save there people forget that Napoles was a tiny welterweight... he was really meant to be at 140 but the division had no glamour in those days, there wasn't much money in it... but he would have been an all-timer there even moreso than he was at 147 (where he was obviously still amazing) it is sort of like Floyd Patterson and 175
but Battling Torres was a one-dimensional slugger who was made for him... Ortiz was pushed aorund by Duillo Loi, for crying out loud At 135, he was clearly more comfortable, quicker, stronger I'm not saying he would beat Pryor necessarily, I'm saying he'd do better at 135 than he would at 140
