I think Ortiz could beat Floyd, I truly do. He all the tools and versatility necessary to do so. Both were brilliant technicians. Both top 10 all time in ring IQ. Speed/quickness obviously goes to Floyd, but if Ortiz could adjust to Laguna's speed in 2/3 encounters, he could adjust to Floyd's. I'm not saying I definitely favor Ortiz, but I think it's basically a 50-50.
No doubt that Ortiz would be, by a mile, the best that Floyd ever fought. I don't know who Floyd would have fought, especially up to the point of his career at 135 pounds, that would prepare him to fight Ortiz.
Cotto and Oscar both showed that you can give Floyd problems with a solid jab - Ortiz had a better jab than both and a much higher ring IQ/better stamina than both. Moreover, unlike Cotto and Oscar, Ortiz was a superb infighter.
I think Ortiz, Duran, and Whitaker have a legit shot at beating Floyd at lightweight. Chavez would have a chance too though I wouldn’t favor him.
