So I am looking for fights where the less succesful fighter beat or gave lots of trouble for the more succesful guy because of styles. Examples like Mayorga-Forrest and Norton-Ali here please.

I don't agree with that one. Mosley is probably the greater fighte but the deciding difference between them was Wright's size

Some will argue Golota/Bowe, though I think it was more of a case of Bowe rapidly declining while Golota was peaking

I thought about that and I don't know. Mosley's stye was the more crowd-pleasing for sure, but I think Forrest could have beaten all the same opponents Mosley ever did (perhaps even DLH) so then I guess it would just be the case of him being the better fighter. Too bad his own career got stopped when he ran into a guy who had his number

Don't agree with you. I picked Golota to beat Bowe quite a while before it happened. Bowe was a big bully: picking on older or smaller fighters. I knew that the first time he fought a man his size with comparable skills he'd be in trouble (J Luis Gonzales didn't qualify...OBVIOUSLY).

I would have picked Lennox to beat him and I picked Golota.

I agree. Vernon Forrest, IMO, is a better fighter than Shane is.

But all that said, Bowe was still the more accomplished fighter of the two when all is said and done (unless Golota somehow turns it all around in the twilight of his career). So how does it not fit the criteria suggested in the opening post?

De la Hoya won the rematch, so I think that one could be put down to Oscar employing a dumb strategy. Remember '4 fights 4 knock outs in 2000', trying to wipe out the memory of the Tito fiasco.

De La Hoya lost the rematch also. But I think Mosley was simply a better fighter than him

but the point is, he blew his chance ot prove it when he twice lost to Mayorga (even if the rematch could've gone either way) and has been plagued with injuries and inactivity.

Therefore, coulda, shoulda woulda's aside, Shane Mosley is a more successful fighter than Vernon Forrest.

    Agreed and at 160lbs.

However Hearns was KOed by Barkley and Duran beat Barkley..even knocking him down...so Phonetap saying that Forrest is worse than Shane on account of him being Koed by Mayorga is simplistic...

Mosley-Forrest is the Most PROMINENT Example...

Because of Styles, Shane JUST CAN'T Beat Vernon...Ammy OR Pro...& When they're Both Old & Gray, Vernon would Probably STILL Beat Shane...

Nonetheless, Shane Mosley IS the BETTER Fighter, Clearly...BETTER Resume, MORE Accomplishments...More of an IMPACT on his Era...

& Before ANYBODY Mentions Roy-Tarver in this Thread, Roy DOES have a WIN Over Tarver...

Tarver Roy is a bad example...I agree with REED.

I attribute Roy's difficulty with Tarver to his move down in weight from heavyweight. The Roy of the Richard Hall fight would have beaten Tarver every day of the week and twice on Sundays. In fact as REED mentioned Roy DID win the first fight and he did so looking terrible.

In the rematch he simply got caught (could happen to anyone) and in the rubber match Roy didn't try to win.

peak vs. peak Forrest is better than Mosley. but because of his injuries and lack of signature wins or even fights against his top contemporaries (Mosley being the only exception), he cannot be considered the better fighter.

still, i don't think Forrest/Mosley fits into this category as it suggests that Forrest managed to somehow over-achieve in beating Mosley, when the fact of the matter is, many experts expected him to win, he was an olympian, and had already beaten Mosley in the amateurs.
