The new weight will be 156, +/- a pound. I guess we can call that the "Junior-weight" division. Fightnews:
That fucker shoulda laid off the enchiladas and frijoles. I have no hope for the kid, he should have butchered Vanda the first time out.
If he actually trained for this fight and still can't make weight, then his career is over. There's no way in hell he survives even the John Duddy level at middleweight
I admire Chavez Jr for making this fight. It has the potential to ruin any future big fight potential. His "fans" and the ridiculous media pressure are to blame for this. For all the negative attention he gets, he has become something of an underrated and under appreciated fighter. I like watching him fight. He's not very good, but he works hard and is an honest mans athlete. Boxing needs more fighters like Chavez Jr, IMO. **Not: Not fights like he makes, but fighters**
i was gonna say - wtf are you talking about? thing about jr. is he had virtually no amateur career so what you see is NOT what you get when it comes to him. i think he has the talent, passion and determination to become a much better fighter than he is now.
hmmm sounds like he's screwed if he's struggling to make 154 already...what's he gonna do at 160 :atu:
dsimon writes: :bears::bears: Bravo! And at his age he should not be laying off the frijoles and enchaladas. He may grow quite a bit bigger, and he might get quite a lot better, but if he doesn't he should be entitled to a normal life for a 20 year old.
dsimon writes: Yeah but if not... like Tam said he has done good work, he has worked at the craft and (my thoughts subsequent) if he exits stage now and goes to college and has a chunk of change from it all... god bless! Frankly when I look at him I think he could easily grow into being a big middleweight int he nxt few years ... But I could be deluded. Instead of trying to fight lower though I agree with him t try to go higher because he is still growing!!
One has nothing to do with the other. Guzman's issues have everything to do with how he carries himself during his downtime. I'm asking if Chavez (who's only 22,23 years old) has already grown out of 154, because the feedback I received was that he seriously trained for this fight. If he can't make 154, then he's going to be in trouble even at the fringe level of 160. If it was just a(nother) bad camp, and he can still make 154, then it's a moot point.
:warning: Jake...I'm teasing you man. It was either that comment or posting pics of Viv on the canvas from last night's fight. Figured this would sting less. ::
