So you don't even have to retire to be in the UFC's hall of fame? :dunno: I guess sponsoring UFC events is another good way to get into the hall of fame as well.
Obviously Liddell deserves to be in the UFC HOF, but I don't like the idea of putting an active fighter in. Granted, Liddell may never fight again, and he's said that he's gonna take off until at least April of 2010, but I think he'll fight at least one more time. And I have no problem at all with inducting Mask. Tapout has played a huge part in not only the success, but the survival of MMA. TFK
U HAVE to Make an EXCEPTION for Chuck Liddell...He was THE GUY when UFC's Popularity EXPLODED...He was UFC's 1st TRANSCENDENT Fighter...WELL Deserved... REED:mj:
You could argue for Tito Ortiz. As for the topic, Dana White said we'll never see Chuck in the UFC again after he lost to Shogun. He's definitely one of the most accomplished guys through the first 100 UFCs.
Just about everyone in the UFC hall of fame is still active. Mark Coleman Royce Gracie Randy Couture Ken Shamrock Dan Severn Not sure how active Severn is still and Gracie may not fight again but the others are active fighters.
I don't think any sort of "exception" is required.. Chuck WAS the shit in the UFC LHW division some 5 years ago. He was beating up Ortiz / Couture / Sobral, and it didn't look like anyone was close. He's had a long accomplished career and it would be hard to say that any fighters in UFC history would be more clearly deserving of induction at this point.
Gracie will fight again. No matter how good he might be with money eventually he's going to spend that 50 bucks he got from paid from the UFC.
Yeah, he only made $400,000 for the Hughes fight. I think you picked the wrong guy to make that joke about.
The early UFC's were really nothing more than an infomercial for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I'm sure winning those early tournaments and matches made a ton more money for Royce and family than just the $50,000-$60,000 the tournament winners would get. TFK
Actually Ken Shamrock alongside Gracie brought awareness to submission fighting. Ken's fighting then is still modern day since if you saw his fights in the first few UFCs, he already knew how to use the fence as a weapon, trapping his opponents there and doing ground and pound. Guys today are obviously more seasoned at it. Ken back then is actually more talented than Brock Lesnar today. Actually Ken then has more talent than most of the heavyweights today in the UFC.
Mask shouldn't be in the hall of fame, if he should let's induct the Everlast C.E.O into the boxing hall of fame.
There are a ton of people in the boxing Hall of Fame that weren't boxers. Hell, Leroy Neimann is in, and all he did was paint pictures. Stanley Weston is probably at least as well known for making Pro Wrestling Magazines as he is for making Boxing Magazines. Bill Gallo is a cartoonist who does occasional articles about boxing for the NY Daily News and he's in. TFK
This a bad comparison. Mask did a shitload to promote the sport via a TV show, magazine, now a training center, etc. All that everlast did was sell boxing equipment.
You mean promote his clothing line. I'm not saying that he didn't care for the sport, but let's not act like it was totally altruistic.
Tap Out has probably sponsored more fighters and organizations than anyone else in history. They played a huge part in the growth and survival of MMA. Without their sponsorship, there would've been a hell of a lot less MMA fighters, especially before the MMA explosion. TFK
