What imo doesn't get noticed enough is how much the promoters and other circumstances affect the outcome of fights. Promoters choose judges and refs, decide the location etc but there is more there. Two examples: #1:Tyson Fury told in his book that Klitshko's camp had put up a ring with soft canvas, which made lateral movement more difficult. Presumably K2 promotions often did this because it usually benefited the brothers. Fury however demanded a harder surface, and got it, even though the promoter had no duty to agree. Thus he was able to use his footwork #2 The promoter also decides which gloves can be used (not many know this). Promoters bring out 4-5 pairs where to choose from. If the opponent has a favorite pair, the promoter can leave it out, unless the contract says otherwise. The fighters can make suggestions however. When Duhaupas fought Helenius in Finland, he brought cheap-ass gloves which practically lost their padding after minutes of boxing. The dumbass promoter, who knew nothing about boxing, allowed them, and Duhaupas fought practically bare-knuckled. Both instances definitely affected the fights, though probably not the final outcomes. And of course, the location of the fight, which promoter decides, can change results. SRR vs Maxim is perhaps the most famous example. List examples of fights where you think the circumstances created by the promoter probably affected the result.
One of the most well known examples, and the first that came to mind, was the location impacting the outcome of Barry McGuigan vs Stevie Cruz. A white Irishman gets outlasted in a grueling fight in the Vegas heat by a Mexican from Texas.
Ray Leonard and Bob Arum getting the clown ring against Hagler, which allowed him to dance on his toes, and slap avalanche his way to win the MW title
Good one. What bothers me is that if a fighter brings these up, they are automatically labeled as excuses, even though at the absolute top the differences are minimal and such factors can in some cases tip the scale
How do you know? Maybe there were a bunch of shady thugs representing Big Socks with guns drawn at him in his dressing room. Maybe they threatened something bad would happen to his family unless he wore them? You weren't there.
I wasn't sure what you were getting at so i did some research. A bit of detective work revealed that September 11'th was actor and singer Harry Connick Jr's 34th birthday. I don't get the connection to boxing but it's possible i've missed something.
