El Nuevo Dia is reporting that Joshua Clottey and Luis Collazo have agreed to meet in an eliminator on the undercard of Mosley-Cotto. However, this deal is far from done according to IBF Chairman Lindsey Tucker.

that's an appropriate fight considering both are from new york and are amongst real contenders in the division.

i'd expect clottey to win a close decision.

this card is turning out to be pretty decent.

Good fight and a good card so far...

    "However"

The way I see it, Puerto Rico is sitting at 0-2.

Rumor has it that Joony has informed security to refuse admittance to a short Puerto Rican with short arms which is VERY bad news...

You might get in, but I doubt Cotto will. :tease:

Back to the fight itself, I think it's a damn good match-up. Haven't seen Collazo in a while but he is sturdy and has good skills. I think this will be a real test of wills--I wonder how Clottey fares in the latter rounds of this one should it go that far.

If this fight comes off I think it will be a bad night for Puerto Rico. I'm going with Mosley and Clottey on this one.

I'm still trying to figure out why Cotto took this bout. At 140, I felt he was underrated. At 147? Maybe the opposite. I didn't think he looked too hot against Urkal and I'm not ready to crown him king because he ate up Zab Judah. Then again, Mosley has been pretty inconsistent himself.

I think Collazo's best chance of winning is to last long enough for Clottey to have a mental meltdown, either blowing an early lead or getting himself disqualified. Beyond that, I think Clottey's way too physically imposing for him to handle.

They tricked him. They told Cotto he was fighting "Sugar Shay" so he quickly signed the contract only later to find out the truth

Clottey has no business at that weight. He doesn't eat for days just to make the weight. Unless the weight issue catches up to him, he's too strong.

    Basically.

It's funny, I think - physically - Clottey is too imposing for most welters. But he really has some mental blocks. Sh*t, he almost suffered one against Corrales and he was beating the snot out of him. I suspect we'll see the same if Collazo is still standing after 5. Clottey likes to go into a shell whenever that happens so I see a very close decision in this one.

The problem with Collazo is that he's a great infighter. I think with Clottey's size, Collazo is in for trouble.

    Mosley is getting stopped.

I guess this means Cintron is fighting nobody.

i dont get anyone who would say that it's a mistake for cotto to take this fight.

mosley is nearly 36 years old. if cotto can't beat him, then it would mean that he's not really that good. i think it's about time that cotto faced an elite fighter and at this point, i dont think mosley's all that elite.

if cotto wins, then good, he's for real. if he loses, then he is what he is.

emmanuel steward often mentions that some fighters shouldnt fight so and so. this is what's wrong w/ boxing. i give mosley credit for fighting forrest both times and especially giving winky a chance to prove that he's a great fighter.

i'd rather see fights happen than having them end up in mythical matchup threads.
