In no particular order and I'll stick to non-animated because the animated shows get plenty of coverage here already:

    Cheers

    Seinfeld

    All In The Family

    The Honeymooners

    Community

    It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

    Curb Your Enthusiasm

    The Chapelle Show

    In Living Colour

Saturday Night Live - grudgingly. It's a disjointed, mostly unfunny slog to get through most shows, but it's impossible to deny it's influence and the talent it's pumped out through the years.

I'm sure I've overlooked or forgotten about many others that actually belong on this list...............and yes, it's completely US influenced.

...................and no, I don't want to see films of any of them.

I rank Fresh Prince of Bel Air at the top.

    I'd also like to mention

    Yes, Prime Minister
    Seinfeld

This was tough. I could probably do a top-50, with most coming from either Britain, or the US. Anyway...

    1. Seinfeld
    2. M*A*S*H*
    3. Just Shoot Me!
    4. The Simpsons
    5. Spin City
    6. Father Ted
    7. Third Rock From The Sun
    8. Arrested Development
    9. That 70's Show
    10. Black Books

The best going around now would be Modern Family, Rules Of Engagement, American Dad! & Family Guy, even if the latter has lost some form lately. There are just so many great shows who didn't miss my cut by much --- Fawlty TowersRed Dwarf, Absolutely Fabulous, Coupling, Yes, Prime Minister, & a host of others.

The great tragedy to me was Arrested Development. I place a emphasis on longevity (IMO, one of the principal markers of comedic greatness), otherwise, this show would easily be a lot higher on my list. It's the Salvador Sanchez of comedy. RIP.

The one reason i liked Seinfeld so much is that it was pure comedy. Never any "very special episodes" trying to pull heart strings or send out any kind of moral message.

It was only about the laughs.

True. I always respected it for that. Not a single "poignant" moment during the entire run of the show.............even when the situation called for it......ie. The Bubble Boy or George's fiance dying just before their marriage.

I think we can thank the Larry David influence for that.

I saw somewhere the creators of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" admitted to being a raunchier rip-off of Seinfeld, and thanked them for it.
