arum likes rewarding losers w/ a big payday.

    look at floyd-judah, cotto-judah, and now cotto-margarito.

this does not surprise me at all.

i'm glad. Cotto has the chance to beat Margarito decisively - Margarito has the chance to redeem himself and get a rematch with Williams.

Margarito still is very marketable. Just because he lost on points in a fight where he didn't have a scratch on him at the end doesn't mean his career is over. Make the fight!

Even though Margarito lost his last fight, it was still a pretty close and entertaining fight, and Cotto-Margarito is an intiguing matchup. I don't really mind this at all. Margarito has paid his dues and at least he'd receive another nice payday.

    Good call...

That means Morales gets three consecutive free rides.

He shouldn't be headlining and fighting for a title in a few weeks.

I still want to see it. Margarito didn't disgrace himself or anything, he fought hard, showed tons of heart and determination. I'd like to see Williams and Margarito rematch also.

This loss actually might be good for Margarito. He may come out hungry as hell for his next fight, looking to prove his critics wrong. We all know that it only takes 1 good win in boxing to get back into title contention. Margarito is still a very serious contender, much to the dismay of Floyd lovers like Xplosive and Reed.

I'd rather see Cotto-Mosley....It's not fair to Cotto to be dragged out of a mega showdown with a big name to fight Margarito.....When Cotto is about to fight Mosley, suddenly Margarito, after losing is getting the spot....Let's see Cotto-Mosley and the winner will defend it's title against Margarito, and that will make sense.

I think they're gonna keep Cotto away from a Mosley type for as long as they can. If Cotto can stay and fight people who aren't significantly faster than he is, then he's going to have success, and I look for him to decapitate Margarito when this fight happens

Arum has stated for a while now that he preferred Cotto-Margarito, which is no surprise given they're both Top Rank fighters.

    Cotto-Margarito was the pencilled-in fight this fall...not Cotto-Mosley.

Steve Kim did write that Arum said he'd be meeting with Schaeffer to discuss Cotto-Mosley...though it may have just lip service.

That fight might be more likely in the first part of next year.

It was a close fight, and if the judges saw it Margarito's way by a whisker, and was announced the winner, despite all the cries of robbery,..the Margarito - Cotto fight would seemingly go ahead without any complaints,..just because Williams was awarded a close decision for his freakish workrate, awkwardness and accuracey, is no reason to bitch about Margarito - Cotto being made,..Margarito didn't become a scrub overnight,... besides....:dunno: who the fucks Cotto beat that's even remotely dangerous as Margarito?..he's more than a handful for anyone at welterweight, you've got him for 12 gruelling rounds,...the later rounds are an especially compelling test.

    Really?? faster?? Like Judah......malignaggi???
Dude, Cotto is not being protected and you know it, stop bashing the man, he's looking forward to rip mosley's ribs and disfigure his face, since Shane is not what he used to be 4 5 years ago...AND....Cotto surely knows how to deal with speed.

Let's get real here, it's a good idea to keep Cotto away from Mosley dispite how old he may be. It's not a good style matchup for Cotto, because Shane has never ran from a pressuring fighter in his life. He's basically a skilled brawler and he will meet Cotto face to face and he will fuck Cotto up. To be honest though, Williams is the guy Cotto really needs to stay away from, that height, reach and style would give him fits. I don't have a problem with them keeping the fight on. Shane needs to be fighting Floyd, not picking on guys out of his league like Cotto.

What makes you think Mosley will fuck cotto up?? Mosley never fucks nobody up....he wins on points, or if a KO which is very rare in these weightclasses, it's by accumulation...and accumulation means standing and trading with your opponent, and believe me, Mosley will not be smiling once he tastes Cotto's left hooks, to the body or to the face...Cotto by UD

:bears: Indeed, that old lime eyed jungle cat is still a vicious prowler, tough, powerful, elegant, attractive, with the steaming breathe of an idoling truck engine wavering his meaty whiskers,...it'll be hilarious when the little ham-headed Puerto-rican bully-boy has his first trade off with Shane in the centre of the ring, to establish which one's gunna go backwards,..and after Cotto's shoes gradually squelch to the brim with his own petrified piss, he will use that southpaw to orthadox switching cave-man dance while strictly on the retreat,..just as a desperate 'keep away' bluff, like eyes on butterfly wings,..pleading insanity, :crafty: I think Cotto will acknowledge after a few exchanges early on, that a shut-out loss is easier to live with than an annihilating wipe out. :crafty:

you guys suggesting this isn't right, that Margarito shouldn't be rewarded for a loss with a shot against Cotto should change your perspective. look at it as a reward to a fighter for taking a risk, one that even we fans didn't think he should've taken.

the sooner people stop putting so much stock in wins and losses, the sooner this sport will be something closer to what we all want it to be.

    just remember...

    HBO

=wants you to buy into the existence of a super-human fighter who cannot be beaten

    =exclusive contracts and Tysonesque stars

=no incentive to make bouts against "risky" opponents

    =PBF vs. Bruseles

The "invincible" fighter is purely a mirage created by HBO - it's based on the misconception that it's the best way to sell fights but more importantly this is the only model in which they can "monopolize" the sport.

If fans focused on fights, and not fighters, HBO would be on an even playing field with everyone else.

You're right I'm having delusions of Sugar Shane Mosley. Still though, I believe that given Cotto's style he force Mosley to fuck him up. You think Mosley's never faced a body puncher before? The guy is a living breather latinokiller he's whoknowshowmany&0 against latinos. Only chance Cotto has is to hope Mosley has gotten old over night. So before anyone asks, the answer is yes. Yes if Cotto beats Shane it's because he was over the hill.

Oh they do count, they all count, because none of them have ever beat him. Cotto is another animal? Please, the guy hasn't proven himself that much yet. Look Shane isn't like Judah, Floyd, or RJJ, he's another animal. He grew up fighting that tough latino style, only difference was he had the kind of talent guys like Judah and Mayweather had. These days he's alot older so he may clinch more than normal, but until he's ready to hang em up, I don't see him giving up and letting a young lion out tough him in the trenches.

Don't get me wrong Cotto's a great guy, the best of the newbies, but there are some older guys you just shouldn't test your newbies on. For Vargas and Reid that was Trinidad, for anyone in the welter division except maybe Paul Williams that guy is Mosley.
