Could have Margarito stood up to a prime Trinidad's power shots@147?

I want to get some opinions! Will it be Tito/Campas all over again or does the Mexican Torpedo, Tornado whatever the fuck it is take it?

 

sure why not? I think Margarito would have taken his shots. It's not like every single Tito fight was a KO win for him

Well my thought, Margarito loves to mix it up and brawl and not 1 fighter has been able to brawl with Tito and win. I got a feeling Tito knocks Margarito the fuck out on his feet just like he did Campus.:eeeek: BRUTALLY!!!!:bears:

 

It's a good question. I really don't know. Margarito's got a rock chin but Tito would be taggin' him at will. It would be interesting to see what would happen.

 

to be fair though I think Margarito has been and is better than Campas. I think he is more skilled than Campas and does more damage.

I think the reason Tito would beat him is because he was more of a complete fighter at 147 than the fighter he became when he moved up.

 

Wow, is the "Margarito has a granite chin" theory/myth based on him standing up to Kermit Cintron's punches? Because if so, I don't really recall Kermit proving to be that big of a puncher. If not, what exactly are we basing Margarito's granite chin on? Isn't he the guy who's never fought anyone? It amazes me how mythical attributes continually live on and grow on fighters around here.

And for the record it's not a good question, it's a fucking stupid question. There is no chance Margarito's defenseless brawling ass would have withstood Tito's shots for 12 rds. He would have gotten KO'd or TKO'd but he would have gotten stopped.

 

....it is very hypothetical.....could he take Tito's best shot?....on the evidence of saturday, there is a pretty good chance he could. But 2 shots?....3? If Kermit Cintron was more technically sound, there are only so many shots Margarito would have been able to take.

Tito is a better boxer, and sustains his power to the final bell, so i'd predict him to take Margarito out eventually.

 

I missed the part where Kermit Cintron proved he had great power. Can someone, anyone tell me exactly when this was proven because KOing a bunch of bums and brawling for several rds with Reid and Estrada don't quite do it for me.

Margarito would tear Tito's plaster wraps off with his teeth, and nibble his knuckles down to the wrist, he would have enjoyed Tito's shots and would wish all his friends and those closest to him could share the privilidge. Margarito would knock his arse out cold at a time of his choosing, that's if he could stop purring, to concerntrate on the job at hand.

Maybe Margarito's chin would prevent him from being KO THAT way, but Tito would had destroyed his body like he did with many others. And BTW...does anyone remembers that people thought that Fernando Vargas had a granite chin before the Tito fight and was dropped twice in the first 30 seconds of the first round?

Depends on how many clean shots Margarito takes.

For all his power, Tito's not likely to stop you with just one punch or combo to the head. The only title defense when he stopped a guy with one punch to the head was Zulu.

But Tito could follow up with a barrage, and drop his opponent a few times, or force a ref stoppage.

In this matchup, I can see Tito stopping Margarito on his feet, similar to how he did Campas, but not as early in the fight

 

Aside from hw's most fighter's rarely ever stop guys with one shot. They may hurt them to the point that the end is near like Casamayor did to Katsidis, but even then that has more to do with shot placement then power. Tito on the other hand had the some of the most consistent punching power rarely found in other fighters. In his prime years at his best weight class the only guy I've seen stand up to his shots without being affected was Hopkins.

By the way, Zulu didn't get stopped by one shot. Tito was boxing his head off for a few rds and you could easily see the power was wearing on Zulu.

 

The fight where he was forced to re-wrap his left hand, very alarming indeed.

 

The answer is no. Not over the long haul anyway. Marga's chin is great, I'll admit that, but he's just too damn hittable to have gone 12 with a prime Tito. Not only did Tito hit harder than Cintron, but he had much faster hands, better accuracy, and a full arsenal. Prime Tito stops Marga in 7-8 rounds.

 

I'd pay to see that fight now, maybe at a catchweight of 160 lbs

But for the record, marge is too slow, his defense is SO shit, and he is too stationary to last the distance against Tito at 147. He'd get butchered in 8 rounds.

He has a good chin, no doubt. But he is really vulnerable in between punches because one, he's so slow, and two..he overextends and telegraphs his punches.
