Apart from the obvious exception of Mike Tyson in 80s, right now Wlad seems to be as dominant as any champion in the history of heavyweight. Foreman and Liston had a similar aura surrounding them as Tyson but both lost their titles quickly before cleaning the house. Apart from them, Wlad doesn't seem to have a credible opponent in horizon, ie. a challenger who wouldn't be a big underdog going in. Of course there are fights to be made, there always is, but there seems to be very little real threat too him. Since the first Brewster fight he has won all his fights quickly and/or lopsidedly

You might not like the guys who are in the top-10, their style of fighting or whatever, but credit goes where it is deserved. Wlad rules and stands well above the rest.

More like lewis and larry holmes. Exceptionally good boxers, but not great because of a lack of talent in their division. Although you can make the case for lewis and holmes being considered great.

Huh? He only won *A* title a couple of years ago and has since defended it against Lamon Brewster, Ray Austin, Calvin Brock and Sultan Ibragimov. One of the most diminant champions ever?

    Give. Me. A. Fucken. Break.

PS: And he did NOT beat Peter "lopsidedly"

He did beat Peter 10 rounds to two. To me, that is pretty clear a decision. And I never said his record of opponents was the best ever, I said he doesn't have very credible challengers out there. The best of them right now is Ruslan Chagaev, who would also start as a heavy underdog against him. That is what dominance means. And few heavyweights in the history have been in similar situation. Or would you like to give some examples instead of cursing?

He was indeed and hurt in one of those occasions and never close of losing the fight. Not as close as Larry Holmes losing to Carl Williams for example

    So the most dominant champs
    - get outboxed for nine runds and then KOed by journeymen
    - need luck to get decisions over likes of Carl Williams, Trevor Berbick and Tim Witherspoon with a 15 fights of experience
    - get decked by 190 lbs Brits and nearly losing decisions to light heavyweights
    - Get knocked down and their noses ripped off by light heavyweights
    - Get outboxed for 13 rounds against light heavyweights

If a clear cut decision victory over a top challenger is the worst the guy has done lately, he has done pretty well

They sure as hell do more than make four defences of a SINGULAR belt, against completely non-descript competition. If you wanna fight shit competition, defend the belt 20 times or so. Then you're dominant and possibly even great.

Wlad? He's a decent, short-regning champion, who's still trying to blot out his past dissapointments.... in a shitty division.

:eeeek: WTF!!,.. especially in reference to Lennox Lewis,.. who presided over perhaps the best era in heavyweight history, destroying everything America had to offer. ..I thought 4 white champions would start forcing Americans to finally appreciate Lennox Lewis, but there are still clearly some that remain defiant and bitter about the greatest heavyweight ever :nono: .

Wlad has been stopped too many times during his prime to be considered a dominant champion. On one hand, it's not his fault that the division is devoid of talent, but on the other hand that may be working out in his favor as the lack of talent among the "contenders" could be a big part of why he is currently on top of the division.

Let's not make Wlad into more than he really is. Right now he is the best heavy in a terrible time for heavies, but he also has 3 stoppage losses on his record. He has a lot more work to do before even we can BEGIN to mention him among the best of all time.

1 Thing NO Fighter can Control is the ERA N Which he was Born...

ALL a Fighter can Do is DOMINATE his Era as IMPRESSIVELY as Possible & Compete Against the "Names" from his Particular Era...

REED Isn't Sure he'd Call Wlad "1 of the Most Dominant Champs EVER", but he's CLEARLY Established Himself as THE NEXT Dominant Heavyweight...

    Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Lennox, WLAD...

    Wlad's ALREADY EARNED that Designation...

To me Wlad is still the Heavyweight with the most potential in this weak era. But fights like last night doesn't show he is dominant. Sure he jabbed him to death but he is supposed to be more than that.

The hype about Wlad is his size, skills, and power. Yet he fought like he was the smaller guy being cautious. :dunno: To me that's not dominant. It fucking sucked.

It sucked because he can deliver more than that. If he is supposed to be the best heavyweight today he better show me more.

Why is that? When we talk about dominant (and not exciting) champions, winning is what counts. Muhammad Ali didn't look very destructive always, in fact many of his bouts were pretty boring.

And to Broadwayjoe: I am not suggesting Wlad was at the same level as the best in the history. Clearly his resume and time at the top are not enough yet. However if he keeps on dominating the way he is now for some years, then he deserves a place among them. His "amount of dominance" is at their level

Well, however well Klitschko does in his career, one of the things he has going for himself is that he is consisent with his conditioning and physical prepartion and that gives him the best chance each time when he enters the ring.

Two of the other elite modern "super" heavyweights, Lewis and Bowe, struggled with this and it contributed to the6m underachieving (and losing) in certain fights.

It doesn't appear to be an issue at all with Klitschko.

When I think of a "dominant champ" it sure isn't someone who I wouldn't be surprised to see lose on any given night, regardless of the opponent. But hey, to each his own.

I agree that Klitschko is the most dominate HW since LL left the division, it's just too bad he had to retire due to injury. Wlad Klitschko is a nice substitute to what his brother offered but he's not shown a complete dominance yet.

You take away Wlad's height, reach, and fill the division with just a few B+ fighters with some power and then we'd see how dominate the real Wlad is. The guy is okay but he isn't even regarded half as much now as he was 6 years ago; and now he's a champion so what does that tell you?

Yeah, I suppose that Wlad is the dominant guy at heavyweight at the minute.

But this is a terrible, terrible era for HW's, and Wlad has been stretched three times already, so I really am not as 'with' the guy as Ugo clearly is.

And some of the stuff here about Lewis is insane, btw. Anyone saying that he is a 'possible' great HW is nuts. Lewis would have cleaned out everything currently at HW without breaking a sweat IMO.

I don't know, didn't the Patriots win three super bowls by an average of 3 points. The media considered them pretty dominant.

Winning, alone, can be dominant if it's done consistently for a significant period of time.

I think Lennox Lewis' chin and recovery were better than Klitschko's, plus I think he was better at hiding when he was hurt, but he still had saying the exact same things about his chin before and after every fight.

It was similar with Terry Norris.

    On what grounds?

This is an appalling time for the HW's. I agree with you that the next best out there after Wlad is Ruslan Chagaev. The same Chagaev who got hit with endless uppercuts by and went the distance with a 40 year old Matt Skelton.

Please tell me how many SECONDS it would have taken for Lewis to remove Chagaev from his boots and put him into orbit? :shit:

He disagrees that it's fair for you to bring up the division or the quality of Wlad's competition because that just flat out makes Wlad look well......rather ordinary which is kind of what the guy is.

    I love rubbish like this.

Lewis got KTFO twice. The first time was when he was throwing his own power punch at a hurt opponent and was caught blindsided by a haymaker right on his chin whilst he was leaning in. The second time he got caught ABSOLUTELY flush by a perfect money shot.

    But he is chinny...:dunno:

There are almost NO HW's who would not have been KTFO by the two shots that did for Lennox. They were absolutely pitch perfect shots.

Not to mention that he completely wiped both of his 'conquerers' out in rematches (the Rahman KO being the stuff of highlight's reels)

Wlad is a MILLION times more chinny than Lennox ever was.

He didn't really wipe out McCall. McCall was taken out of rehab and thrown into the ring by Don King.

Lewis was roundly criticized for not be able to do more against a McCall that was breaking down and crying in front of him.

Granted, I thought the criticism was way overboard (especially since McCall came out afterwards and set he was just playing possum:lol: ), but it wasn't a great performance by Lewis.

But then, it came at a time when people didn't want to give Lewis credit for anything...which is why he was criticized after the Akinwande fight as well.
