Cuevas was a frightening puncher, and EJ ain't Pernell Whitaker defensively, so there's no guarantees here. We gotta learn more about Spence. The Brook fight told us a lot, but then again, Brook don't punch like Cuevas. One thing I know for sure... Cuevas destroys Thurman, Garcia, and Porter.
Far from a sure shot that he destroys them. Cuevas was full of flaws. I do like his chances against Spence though, for the reason you gave. Still, I think spence is the safer bet, since he seems to have a good chin and is a lot more complete and polished
We already had the discussion last week and agreed that Thurman ain't beating any elite welters. We're talking about a guy who got buzzed by Soto Karass and was having problems for about 8 rounds with the pressure of Diego Chaves. Keith ain't beating no prime Cuevas. Porter/Garcia are too hittable. And Danny has never displayed much power at 147, I'm not convinced he could hurt Cuevas. I think Cuevas brutalizes Danny inside of 5.
I wouldnt call cuevas an elite welter. If he was, he wouldnt have been obliterated by the 2 elite ones he faced. Id pick him against thurman, cause he has good feet and one time defense is based on movement. But it is far from a confident pick
