Jonesy (NC): Who should take Arreola's spot in the top 10? Dan Rafael: (2:50 PM ET ) Based on actual accomplishment of late, I would put Holyfield in over Arreola. At least Evander beat Oquendo and Savarese, who are both better than anyone Arreola has ever faced. And Arreola is facing another nobody Saturday night.
No, I read him because he actually has some news. I think he's an atrocious writer and an idiot when it comes to boxing.
His notebook is basically filled with press releases. Rafael has access to networks, promoters, managers and fighters so he can pass on news...that's the only reason I read him. He has little understanding of the sport, and no ability to look at a fight or a match-up and give anything more than cursory analysis.
I don't know why but this Jonesy handle is vaguely familiar to me, did a guy with the same username used to post here?
I agree the guy has no knowledge of the sport or art of boxing at all, zero. Just take one look at him. I don't read his crap, and really never have.
i've hung out w/ dan a few times in AC. he's very cocky, but i guess he's an alright guy. with that said, i could care less about his boxing analysis, but his notebook is very informative.
I asked him about the unflattering comments that ESPN boxing reporter Dan Rafael made about him and his manager, Willie Savannah, when Rafael termed his fight against Fernando Angulo a big payday for a “meaningless†fight that was exactly what Juan and Mr. Savannah wanted. “What Dan Rafael writes or says doesn’t bother me or my team at all. There are certain people in the media that we talk to and like, and then there are others that will write negative things about you for dramatic effect,†said Diaz. I then pointed out to Diaz that Mr. Rafael has no boxing experience, and that if he did, he would know that no fight is ever meaningless. “That’s right,†replied the champion. “Look at boxing history and how many champions have lost to underdogs. I just had to put that one in!::
Didn't he have Ruiz beating Toney on points? The funniest is when he said that Marquez-John was a fair decision, then later on said he never saw the fight.
i can't believe some of these writers are actually dumb enough to plagiarize. even kids in college learn how to rewrite sentences rather than copying them verbatim.
