“Now I’m going to Europe, Australia and England, but soon we’ll be opening an office in China. Now we’re working on The Ultimate Fighter of Canada, and soon we’ll have The Ultimate Fighter Chinaâ€, said White to MMAJunkie. After grubbing the Chinese market, White has even more ambitious plans. “We bought this company and we are doing 5 events per year. If you said, six years ago, we would be doing 34 events per year I’d say it’s impossible, that this would never happen, it’s crazy. But now I believe we can get to the point we have 100 events per yearâ€, said Dana. Dana White has also been in talks with possibly hosting an event some time down the road in Afghanistan.
I agree. Fertittas need to wise up and realize that Dana is too greedy tor their own good. I have stated numerous times that this will just water down the events.
At this point, the UFC needs to scale back a bit. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take several forward, and that is where they are right now. I would make it 1 PPV a month, and no WEC on PPV. They can have as many Spike and Versus cards as they want, but to ask your fans to pony up $50+ more then once a month is just too much. I would keep the WEC as a seperate entity with WEC cards on Spike, but I would put WEC title fights on UFC PPV's. TFK
If they're gonna have 100 cards a year, that means they'd need a humongous roster of fighters. Let's see... 7 fights per card = 14 fighters on one card 100 cards x 7 fights per card = 700 fights in one year all over the world 14 fighters per card x 100 cards per year = 1400 fighters on the UFC roster Now let's assume each fighter fights 3 times per year. So that would be 1400 divided by 3 = about 466 fighters on the UFC roster! And there are a very limited number of top level fighters in MMA now. Yet Dana is somehow going to find, by my guess, about 400+ fighters to represent the UFC in events all over the world? Am I reading this right?:dunno:
Totally agreed about the short term. As for the long term, if they have a bunch of East Indian fighters in India, a bunch of Chinese fighters in China, a bunch of Japanese fighters in Japan, etc etc...you never know how much of a market they could set up. There's still a fair bit of untapped market out there.
