DM had by far more longevity, but for one peak performance, i dont think DM was as good as the Torres who thrashed Pastrano. I think D'Amato's style would really shine against DM's straight up, no head-movement, no infighting style. In other words, i think Torres would be too quick and dynamic. Torres by UD.
I completely agree, Torres' performance vs Pastrano was more electrifying than Michalczewski's over Hill, and obviously, it was a lot less competitive. However, the more I watch from DM, the more I see he's very underrated in the skills department and rather than being stiff and only fighting in one plane, he was actually quite multi-dimensional and fluid when he moved all at once. He just had a very bad tendancy to box within himself and let himself become upright, stiff and stereotypically European. Despite thinking Michalczewski is an underrated technician, he still wasn't half as dynamic as Torres. What I think buggers Torres here, is Michalczewski's strength, size and power. In a war, Torres wins inside exchanges, works the body, and looks far more impressed, but the ever looming DM is nailing hard jabs, and is winning exchanges at mid and long range. I think Michalczewski will start forcing Torres back and essentially, overpower him over the long haul.
They're more less on a similar level. Neither would have a chance against a Saad, Qawi, Galindez level. Obviously no prayer at all against a Spinks, Charles, Moore, Foster.
I think both of these guys would have awesome fights with Saad and Galindez, but both would get thoroughly, and utterly thrashed by Qawi. Horrible match up for both. I think I'd put Galindez and Saad on a level slightly below Qawi. If put Conteh in that level too, Maxim, Hill, Tarver and Eddie MM there as well. I once thought that's where Kovalev should be, but it was proven wrong. Beterbiev is in a similar boat, but I'm more reserved now. On the level above, with Qawi, I'd throw guys like Conn, Jones, Johnson, Bivins, Marshall, etc; on that level. Basically, the guys who were just a step behind Charles, Spinks, Moore and Foster.
