According to James Blears. "WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman explained that David’s ranking is up to the Ratings Committee. But he also said: “I can assure you that David Haye has all the merit and value to be in a very prominent position - absolutely top-ten for sure! David is a tremendous asset for the division, and I’m sure he’ll bring a lot of excitement to it, which is really needed.”" That will put him somewhere in line for the belt held by Samuel Peter.
As far as Im aware, its been WBC practice to reward a WBC champion with a top ten ranking when they move up in weight. I see nothing wrong with the practice, as long as that doesnt translate to an immediate title shot....which I know it can.
I agree with you actually. People get into a big hoo har about fighters being ranked ay a new weight, without having proven anything at the weight etc. BUT - if you look at it statistically, champions or fighters regarded as the divisions best GENERALLY end up at least top 10 in the next weight division. So I don't see the problem.
Yeah, pretty much. In the past, this could have been a shitty practice. If a 175 pounder moved up a division to heavyweight...I could see why there may be a cuffufle. But Haye is moving up from 200, to 200+. And he's only being ranked this way in one division. It's no big deal. He's a proven fighter, just not a proven heavyweight. Top ten aint all that much anyway, as most champions have a thousand mandatories and interim champions lined up to fight them anyway. It's when a guy moves up and moves IN FRONT of a deserving mandatory that I'd take isue with.
Agreed. I don't see why Haye shouldn't get a ranking. It's not like the division and rankings are loaded with future HOF's, is it? He should be ranked, should be made to work his way through those ranks and then see what happens from there. MTF
Nobody that Haye has fought can merit a top ten ranking at Heavy,...so how can you automatically get a top ten ranking when you have never FOUGHT anyone with a top ten ranking?
Easy. Because you think he's better than people currently in the top ten. . The criteria to get ranked is usually that you have fought a scheduled 10 round fight. Not that it be against a top 10 rated fighter. . The IBF tries to make fighters 'earn' it and the result is that their rankings are a fucking mess, filled with gaps and crap fighters providing little, if any, guarantee that anything close to a top 10 is represented within their top 10 spots. Of course, their top 10 spots usually include the Vacant twins holding down #1 and #2.
He should at least have to face and beat a rated guy at that weight. If the division is so weak like we all think that it is.....that shouldn't be hard for Haye to do. And quickly I might add, since his fight against Enzo didn't last as long as a sparring session. Look,.....I love David Haye. I like his spunk, I love his style and I dig his power and guts. But lets be fair about this, no"?
Haye has already stated that he wants to fight two top 10 contenders BEFORE fighting Wlad. That's fine with me if he does that and i'd support him getting a title shot if he blows them out.
So would I. To me, he is a long-needed breath of fresh air to the Heavyweight division. However, right is right. If he is so confident,......he should be facing someone of note in the division, within the next four months before he is rated in the top ten in ANY sanctioning body's rankings.
I agree. I don't have a problem with it at all. It's pretty vague though, somehwere in the top ten. He isn't getting an immediate crack at the WBC belt anyways, given the back there is already for that belt.
I swear I remember reading a while back, that they had planned on installing champions moving up, as an immediate #1 in their rankings. Im very happy that doesnt appear to have ever taken off for an extended period of time as it's horribly unfair. But again, if a champion has a voluntary defense coming up, I have no issue with the ranking being handed out, so the champion can defend against the lower weight champ moving up. Its exciting, IMO.
What are the WBC rankings anyhow? I mean Quitali is getting an immediate shot after nearly 3 years. Peter waited over a year for his shot.
The WBC rules as they pertain to Vitali Klitschko are special and not questionable by any third party.
Champions at different weights have always gotten different treatment. It makes sense and despite however you think it should be, it's not going to change. I don't completely disagree with you, btw, but I do prefer it the way it is. Also, you don't need to be top 10 to get a title shot, only top 15 (i think) for all (i think) sanctioning bodies. And should you only be able to be rated 11th if you beat the 11th rated guy? If the 11th rated guy loses to an unranked guy, should the others move up and the guy who beat him automatically get the 15th spot or should he get the 11th spot? My point here is that no matter how you do it, it's not going to be perfect even with the 'earning it' method.
