By Butch Gottlieb
Boxinginlasvegas was just informed by IBF/IBO champion Chad Dawson’s trainer, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad that Chad has sustained a hairline fracture in his right hand and that the March 14th rematch between him and former champ Antonio Tarver has been postponed. Further details will be posted as they become available.

THANX GOD....what is the point of this fight??

It was just about HBO showcasing Chad Dawson.

I probably wouldn't have watched it anyways...but at least it wouldn't gotten it out of the way in March.

HBO should make Could/Tarver for an interim belt and if Tarvers bails, he can have his rematch with Dawson on Nickelodeon for $2K.

Damn it, I was really looking forward to this fight.

I wouldn't have watched it but Tarver said he'd retire if he couldn't beat Dawson. It was Tarver's retirement that I was actually looking forward too.

What's to get excited about? It's only a postponement.

I'd be happier if i found out the fight already happened.

It'd be a big risk and he could be leaving a lot of money on the table, but wouldn't it be something if Pavlik moved up to 175 and beat Dawson?

Styles make fights! Dawson fights more like Taylor than he does Hopkins. My guess is Pavlik could manage to back Dawson up. The only problem is he'd have to say goodbye to his middleweight career, and also that Dawson is a southpaw, which could give Pavlik a lot of trouble (see Dawson vs. Adamek).

Anyways, was just thinking about how Pavlik could virtually erase his loss to Hopkins and beating Dawson, I think, would do just that.

The safe route for Pavlik is probably to return to middleweight, knock one guy out after another, lure guys to fight him from other divisions, stars if you will, and if he doesn't already have one, get one of those big fat HBO contracts.

It's a little easier to digest a fighter's taking on non-elite competition when they're knocking them out brutally. So Pavlik might get away with that for a little while but a big fight for him will be mandated soon enough by HBO - someone like Kessler or Abraham. And let's hope it's sooner than later. But in the mean time, it's fun to watch Pavlik do to mediocre opposition what champions are supposed to do - take risks, destroy them, and to the extent possible, entertain the public.

what part are you laughing at exactly?

Dawson isn't exactly the most durable fighter, and Pavlik would succeed in backing him up. I think Dawson is highly overrated at this point. Probably because PBF dick-suckers heard him say Dawson was the best fighter in the game right now. But the only reason he said that was because his dad trains him.

He barely beat Johnson. And was hurt badly by Adamek who just couldn't deal with Dawson's southpaw style.

Who else has he beaten? Tarver? Big fckin deal. Who hasn't beaten Tarver who's ranked in the light heavyweight division.

I just thought the part about Pavlik moving up to 175 and beating Dawson was pretty funny. IMO, of course.

you guys are all idiots. and i'd bet at least half of you picked Pavlik to beat Hopkins.

Neil, did it ever occur to you that Adamek was weakened by having to make weight? Or that he hadn't a clue about how to face a south-paw?

What's stupid is to say that because Dawson beat Adamek, that it has any bearing on his chances against Pavlik. Why? Because they're both white?

And who said anything about Taylor? You bring him up because he's black?

And I didn't even say Pavlik could beat Dawson. If you read my post, I said it would erase his loss to Hopkins if he managed to. I think in saying so, I even expressed doubt that he could.

You guys are naive and simple minded. I don't know why I even post here. The points most of you guys find it worthwhile to make are ones my 11 year old nephew could make.

    Bunch of dumies is all.

my only reference to Taylor is the fact that like Taylor, Pavlik would probably succeed in backing Dawson up, keeping him at the end of his punches. Nowhere do I say that they have similar styles.

Taylor got Pavlik's respect in that second fight,.. Pavlik is brutal to fight against if you stay directly infront of him,.. Taylor did more or less, and smashed Pavlik back with some horrifying counter-punches,.. one of which sounded like it busted Kelly's skull, a real gnut,.. I was suprised he remained standing. Then in the Hopkins fight, Pavlik looks asthough he could fall over with one of Hopkins little blind side puffs, then when Kelly finally lands something, to everybodies suprise Hopkins takes it well,.. certainly not the guy who was sent reeling around the perimetre of the ring and rolling around on the floor against the gay soft slapper. The gay soft slapper who spent the last half of a fight with Sakio Bika bawling like a bitch. Boxing's a strange game.

nobody gives any consideration or credibility to the claim that Pavlik was sick and had an injured shoulder. i don't pretend to know Pavlik personally, or be able to say with certainty that he's not a phony, but my money would be on his camp to tell the truth if it were the case, and not to make shit up to try to minimize Hopkins' win.

anyone who watched Hopkins/Pavlik and couldn't tell that Pavlik wasn't 100% is blind. to me, it was glaringly apparent.

The problem is though, that, 'same ol' 'same ol' everybody that loses had a disease or an injury or something that affected them and caused them to lose and it's never the other man in the ring,.. personally, I think the Pavlik camp was as dumb as most forum members thinking that Pavlik was going to wipe him out on the account of Hopkins looking like a soft coward bitch against Calzaghe,.. Sure he was, but you have to get Hopkins into that position first by breaking free of all his stinking strategies,... the last thing you do against Hopkins is train to fight him how you fight everybody else,.. because that's what his intense, cunning, training camp is banking on. Pavlik was prime 1 dimensional meat,.. also... if Pavlik thought he was going to be able to land effective punches at 'head level' against Hopkins,..that was a mistake too,... he should've taken a page out of Taylor's book,..timing punches DOWN towards where his back was going to twist and his head was going to rest, resulting in the beautiful picture in my signature.
