I think that next year this fight is a strong possibility of occuring. If Oscar is going to keep fighting, I seriously doubt he wants anymore of Mayweather. Trinidad is retired and probably won't come back. Mosley and Oscar are partners. Margarito or Paul Williams aren't big enough draws. Ricky Hatton is a 140 pounder. And I seriously doubt Oscar would try 160 again against anybody. De La Hoya vs Cotto in 08... I think its coming..
Yeah, because Oscar and Arum have shown a lot of promise of working together on a big fight, real soon.
Maybe...DLH could ko Cotto...but it's also possible that Cotto break every rib in Oscar body...so I don't think it will happen....to much for DLH to lose.
I'd probably take DLH in this fight. The money in this fight could be huge...enough to make HBO put the kind of money on the table to make both sides amenable to it.
BINGO!!... This is THE Reason why DeLa vs Cotto will NEVER EVER Happen... Cotto & Arum would HAVE to Do the Fight on DeLa's Terms & Arum ISN'T the LEAST Bit Interested N Doing ANY Business on DeLa's Terms... REED:nono:
I think that this fight would be huge. Especially if they did it on Cinco De Mayo or the Puerto Rican Holiday. Would be huge. I'll Holla 5000
Come on, now. Stranger things have happened before than Arum and De La Hoya working together. And you can bet for sure that there wouldn't be any higher pay day for Cotto, and you can bet that greedy ass Bob Arum would take the fight considering that. I wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see it happen next year.
This fight has no legs whatsoever. Arum already has his eggs in the basket of Cotto/Margarito. Both are his fighters, there is no negotiation practically, Arum gets to decide their trunk colors for christ's sake. I have already read that Oscar is pushing for a Mosely/Mayweather fight. He was quoted saying that Mosely has the perfect style to beat Mayweather. and for what its worth, DLH gets busted up badly by Cotto. Cotto is a miniature tank that just keeps coming forward digging to the bones. DLH has always had stamina issues especially of late. Cotto stops him late probably 10 round. DLH will have his moments of course, he will stun Cotto but get frustrated when he can't capitolize. It would be a great fight. Too bad it never happens.
I doubt it happens but if it does I can't see Cotto beating Oscar at this moment. First of all the fight would have to happen at 154 - a weight I think Cotto can be good at in due time but not moving up and fighting DLH. It's hard to inmagine how effective Cotto will be at a higher weight. DLH has had problems with great boxers and basically speedy fighters. Cotto has decent speed but it's not his biggest strenght. At 154 Oscar is as strong or stronger than Cotto. People talk about the damage Cotto can put on DLH's ribs but Oscar's left hook can really take Cotto out. DLH wouldn't have a problem finding Cotto like he did Floyd or fighters of that style. I do think if Cotto beats Margarito at the end of this year he will snatch Fighter of the year and being the man at 147 people will start asking for that fight. Just like they will for a Floyd/cotto fight regardless of what Floyd says.
:nono: He aint beating Margarito son, not when he's wobbling every second of every round with Margarito's workrate, I wouldn't be suprised if Margarito clinches the record for the widest points margin in victory (10 - 8) x 12, Cotto may not stop wobbling the entire fight. Uppercuts galore.
Interesting bit from from Dan Rafael's blog (the free section, anyways): Golden Boy, Top Rank working on truceby: Dan Rafael posted: Monday, June 18, 2007 | Print Entry The war between Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Bob Arum's Top Rank, which has boxing fans caught in the crossfire because the firms are unwilling to make fights between their boxers, appears as though it is headed toward a truce. With no fanfare, leadership from both companies spent Saturday hunkered down in an all-day mediation session in Los Angeles with their team of lawyers. The goal was to settle all of their lawsuits and work out a plan both sides can live with. Both sides would like to settle because they have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal expenses and spent many hours sitting in depositions with no end in sight. De La Hoya, for example, was deposed May 30 in Los Angeles. Manny Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, have also been deposed.
More on the mediation: (And from Marley's piece, mentioned in the article, it sounds like HBO has stepped into the situation because it obviously wants Pacquiao to fight against some of those in G's stable). GOLDEN BOY, TOP RANK MAKING SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN MEDIATION, SET TO RESUME ON MONDAY OVER PACQUIAO PROMOTIONAL RIGHTS By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 Jun 2007 In a world exclusive, top American boxing writer Michael Marley revealed a few minutes ago over at Boxingconfidential.com that Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank executives have just come out of the court-ordered mediation. "The Manny Pacquaio Peace Talks, which began Saturday morning in Los Angeles with representatives of Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank sitting across the table from each other in a court-ordered mediation, seem to be making significant progress. So much so that TR and G agreed to resume their discussions on Monday morning," reports Marley. "Those close to the situation are saying that there has been some talk of the two giant promotional companies 'sharing' rights to Pacman bouts," added Marley. The report said mediation proceedings started at 9:30AM with a mediator "refereeing" then they took a lunch break, and then resumed with an afternoon session with concluded just before 6PM. Marley was also able to get hold of Top Rank boss Bob Aru. "I can't talk right now," Arum was quoted by Marley as saying, "but we are done for the day. Mediation will continue on Monday. That's all I can say at this time."
