For each of these three big fights coming up there's a solid majority who feel that PBF, RJJ and Pavlik will win. Putting aside your opinion as to who you think will win, what circumstance do you think could lead to the other guy winning? For example, what mistakes might PBF make that would allow Hatton to win? Or what unexpected tactic might Tito employ that enables him to beat RJJ?
Hatton Wins by KEEPING Floyd in the Trenches & ATTACKING his Body Early & Often, Hoping it'll HURT Floyd's Mobility Later in the Fight... Taylor Wins by REestablishing his Jab (after a 5 or 6 Fight ABSENCE) & REdiscovering the "Power" in his Right Hand...Pavlik WILL Bring the Fight to Taylor, So this Fight Boils Down to the LEGITIMACY of Taylor's "Power" vs the Legitimacy of Pavlik's CHIN... Tito's ONLY Chance of Winning is by KO,Catching Roy Doing Something STUPID.... REED
Making a case for those three to win is easy because their strenghts are present regardless of what their opponents bring to the table. However, the cases are stronger because of the possible letdowns in their opponents as well. Tito has power. RJJ has been knocked out on one punch...TWICE. Hatton is a pressure fighter and a mauler. If Mayweather is not active enough, it's very easy to see Hatton getting enough rounds. Taylor (BTW, since when was he the underdog for this fight? :dunno:) has a strong jab that keeps everyone (yes even Hopkins) leary of just rushing the guy for all of his faults. Pavlik is offensively minded first (something that Taylor's opponents recently except Ouma were NOT) and has shown that he will eat punches to get work done.
yeah. maybe taylor/pavlik doesn't fit the bill like the others. but i was including it because taylor's performances against spinks and ouma were so unimpressive, i'm guessing that when all is said and done, pavlik WILL be the favorite.
odds-wise, it's an even fight, though certainly any unofficial poll would lean heavily toward Pavlik. So it kinda sorta fits the bill for this thread. I echo TWIN's sentiments, with an addition on Taylor-Pavlik - Pavlik won't just bring the fight to him, but defense is strictly a rumor as far as he's concerned. He's the type that gets mad if you DON'T hit him. There's no excuse whatsoever for Taylor NOT looking good in this fight, win lose or draw - unless of course he gets got very early. Of the three mentioned, this is the only fight I give a fair shot at an "upset." A Hatton upset over Mayweather is not completely out of the realm of possibility, but would be based far more on intangibles and what-if scenarios. The only way I see Tito winning is if Roy is seriously affected making 170 and also spends the whole fight taking careless chances.
dsimon writes: 1) With Tito: Put something in the handwraps... oh never mind!:: 2) Floyd: Underestimating Hatton's physical strength and how difficult it will be to counter Hatton's punches coming at awckward angles. Also underestimating Hatton's ability to make the fight a brawl and to win later rounds through attrition.
Taylor will win, by negating Pavlik's only weapon, that has got him into the position that he's in today, disable that vaunted straight right, and all you've got left is moth-balls and coat-hangers personified, sure he eerily creeps towards you with the speed of a sloth, but he'll be about as welcome as marsh-mallow man on camp night :cheer: . Hatton can win by COMPLAINING to the referee if he'll listen, "He's turnin his fookin' bak!" ..a few ball busts, kidney crunches and hammer-fists to the back of the neck might help do the trick, because he aint hitting Fraud's head, unless he's allowed to take a skewer in the ring to get through all that thigh, spine and shoulder that Fraud puts in the way. Tito can win if a member of team Jones OK's a mysteriously wrapped left hand with a glove on it.
I can see Taylor beating Pavlik simply because I put them both about the same level just different styles. Taylor has not looked good lately which is why some make Pavlik the winner already. in reality Taylor is more proven than Pavlik. Even the close controversial wins for Taylor are better than anything Pavlik has. I think it's a toss up who wins this fight. Tito beating Roy is more an upset because Roy has been Kod by bigger guys than Tito. I know Tito has been known for his power but the only reason he is fighting at lightheavy is because he is a fat ass not because he grew into that division. The weight only tells how much slower and robotic he will be in the ring than when he fought at 160. Obviously catching Roy flush can end it. But as fast as Roy still is at that weight I don't give Tito much chance. I give Hatton no chance at beating Floyd. Fuck the styles argument. Floyd is simply so many levels above anything Hatton will bring. Sure early on Hatton might look good throwing punches but he doesn't have the KO power to hurt Floyd who is proven against bigger punchers than Hatton. REgardless of how fast Hatton is Floyd is faster. Floyd is a natural counterpuncher and facing a pressure fighter is no problem for him. I think in the second part of the fight Floyd will have such an easy time he will toy with Hatton. Hopefully Floyd will try and finish him for the sake of improving his past lackluster performances. I just dont' see why people give Hatton so much chance. Maybe i'ts wishful thinking that Floyd might lose. :dunno:::
Hatton has pretty good footspeed and incredible strength and stamina at 140. I can see him winning by catching up to Floyd and luring him into a phonebooth type of fight, working the left to the body and wearing down Floyd late. Although I think Floyd is going to win going away. I think Taylor is going to beat Pavlik anyways. Pavlk big, and as mediocre as Taylor's defense is, Pavliks is worse. Plus Pavlik is slow, his only real asset is he has decent power and I think Taylor has a good chin and I don't think Pavlik will hit him enough for that to make a difference anyways. Trinidad will have to bring an uzi to beat Roy IMO.
Taylor wins if he finds his jab and can frustrate and discourage Pavlik with that. Chance of Taylor winning: 55 % Tito wins only if Jones is very much past it and can't make the weight properly Chance of Tito winning: 8 % Hatton wins if he wants to Chance of Hatton winning 98 %
A well-conditioned and focused Hatton can win with the right game plan. And I think that would include hurting Floyd upstairs as much as to the belly. Hatton is certainly capable of that but unless Floyd is completely disinterested, I don't see it happening. All bias aside, Tito has a good chance in this bout. He's been studying Roy for years and this is a bout he's always wanted. Roy has a habit of spending the first round against the ropes--could spell trouble against Trinidad. Taylor has got the best chance of the three. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if he outboxes Pavlik, bloodies him up and stops him. Not surprised at all.
taylor beating pavlik would not be an upset. if anything, it's the other way around. taylor at the very best, beat hopkins (2x) and at the very least, lost to close fights. i think it's safe to say that he fought on even terms w/ bernard in two fights i thought winky beat taylor, but i didnt think it was a robbery. pavlik on the other hand has one significant win over a weight drained edison miranda. i'm sure taylor would've beaten that version of miranda as well. in fact, taylor might have done it in an easier fashion without getting hit as much.
For Hatton to heat Mayweather he will have to just maul him and never ever let up. He'll have to just win with activity and keep a pace that doesn't allow Floyd to get off. For Taylor to beat Pavlik he will have to box and move and take advantage of his superior hand speed. It's no secret that Pavlik is going to come right at Taylor and force a fast pace. Taylor isn't going to win a slugfest he's going to have to box smart. This fight is a toss up though so I don't think it fits with the rest. Tito isn't going to carry his power to 170, it was already not the same at 160 and I really think the only chance he has is if Roy slips and falls on his face knocking himself out. I just can't even imagine trinidad beating Roy Jones.
