Kimbo won by Guillotine in Round 1. Looks like he'll be fighting Tank Abbot next. http://www.411mania.com/MMA/news/56173/411-Mania-LIVE-Coverage-of-CFFC-5:-Two-Worlds,-One-Cage.htm Kimbo Slice VS Ray Mercer Heavyweight Exhibition Crowd chants for Kimbo. Mercer comes out to "Momma Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J. Mixed cheers and boos for Mercer but most people want to see Kimbo. Kimbo comes out to "This Is Why I'm Hot", clearly showing Melvin Guillard's cultural influence. Everyone is on their feet. Cheers drown out boos when Mercer is announced, but the crowd is erupting for Kimbo. They only announce him as "Kimbo" without the Slice. What happened? They jaw a bit during the standoff, crowd is on fire. Round 1 Kimbo charges in, goes right for a takedown. Mercer grabs the cage but he goes down. Mercer up, they fight in the clinch. Big knees by Kimbo land. Mercer strikes but Kimbo answers with a combo and gets a double leg. Kimbo fighting, gets Mercer in to a choke. Mercer taps. Kimbo Slice wins by guillotine choke submission in round 1. Crowd chants for Kimbo, it really looks like Mercer didn't train properly for this at all. Kimbo seems to need work himself but the important thing is he got rid of his pride and went with what worked. Hardly a technical showcase, but hell, it was only an exhibition. Kimbo sits on the cage, raising his arms in victory. Tank Abbott is up now, approaching the ring. He congratulates Kimbo. Tank looks like he's calling Kimbo out, points at him but they're being respectful. That's surprising. Kimbo calls out to the crowd, says he was training for MMA. He calls Tank out, says they have to talk and make the fight happen. They are starting to get aggressive, the crowd loves it and calls for Tank to jump the cage. Tank looks like he's going to do it. CFFC suits say the fight will happen.
Ray had neck surgery before he fought Holyfield. Necks typically don't get better with age...especially if you have surgery. Getting his neck wrenched by a big, powerful guy was not good for it...and was that Bas Rutten giving Kimbo advice?

As expected. I give credit to Mercer, though, he had to wait seven rounds to quit against Briggs...but in kickboxing and MMA he doesn't have to fight more than a minute or two...it's a much easier way to earn a buck. :: In that sense, training seriously would actually defeat the purpose of what he's there to do.
Which is exactly the way I called it. I knew the guy was just in it to get paid and wouldn't hardly even train for the fight.
I agree ... Guy is almost 50 now .... However if is was a straight boxing match , it probably would have been much better ... If we had some rounds , I think after the first round and initial attack , Mercer would have started poping his jab etc ... Mercer is far to old to be fighting on the ground and taking knees etc ... I thought this was supposed to be a stand up fight ??
At least Mercer had the stones to compete in an MMA fight, not like Morrison, who talked shit about MMA, then signed up to fight an MMA fight, then at the last minute had the rules changed so there was no takedowns, kicks, knees, etc. TFK
Actually, it was after the Mercer-Tim Witherspoon fight. Mercer was scheduled to face Andrew Golota, but suffered a herniated disc in his neck. Neck injury notwithstanding, if you can resume your boxing career for 10 years afterwards (taking a beating from Wlad Klitschko and taking a dive...er, I mean losing by TKO to Shannon Briggs) and not have anything else happen to it, then I'd assume it was okay. Ray is just an old man who talked his way into a payday, bottom line.
This sideshow is pretty interesting, Kimbo vs. Tyson would make good money. BTW, check out the mosley/mayweather thread. :crafty:
kimbo doesn't want any part of tyson. and even if kimbo did, he wouldn't dare try to square up against tyson, he'd immediately go for a takedown...::
tyson may not be much of a boxer anymore, but he would still knock Kimbo out with one shot, if Kimbo started trading punches with him.
Kimbo wouldn't start trading punches, he'll just aim to take Tyson down and choke him into submission. He aint silly. However Tyson will KNOW that going in an as such will not be stupid like Mercer and just wait on Kimbo...Tyson will rush him from the bell and just throw caution to the wind! It'll be an EXPLOSION!! :eeeek:
I didn't get to see Morrioson vs Stover but I read that Morrison smashed the guy's face so hard with a punch, Stover's nose was mashed inwards into his face.
It's not "stones" it's STUPIDITY! I give credit to Morrison for being smart enough to know his limitations.
It's not really limitations. Just ignorance. A lot of these boxers can't be bothered training in MMA. Hell in 8 weeks, a top camp could teach you how to execute chokes, escape chokes, mount and pass guard, throw knees and kicks, and execute single/double leg takedowns. Heck I think Kimbo learned more in his 8 weeks of MMA training than even Tank Abbot has learned in his entire 13 year MMA career.:: It's more about commitment than anything.
That didn't stop him from talking all kinds of shit, then making an ass out of himself by refusing to fight unless they took all the MMA rules out of the fight. It turned out to be a boxing match with MMA gloves. TFK
True...but my point is that Morrison KNEW that he hadn't training in MMA and so fought conditional to his strengths. Mercer KNEW that he doesn't know how to fight MMA, and STILL went in the ring and stood there like a punk. As Dirty Harry would say: "A Man's GOT to know his limitations"
, so it was basically a boxing match with the small mma gloves??? :: How's that fair for the other guy, it's worse than a true boxing match, with boxing gloves. Morrison is a sneaky bastard.
