Hasn't fought since 07. She K.O'ed most of her opponents, ever lost & looked fine. (24-0. 21 K.O's) <iframe width="960" height="720" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-Ko0Pwb_gu4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It's gotta be tough being the fighting child of a damaged prize fighter. I figure she made some good coin during her career...she had a few endorsement deals if memory serves.
That whole scene went very quiet very quickly....for 10 years from 1997 or so to 2007 you had that Playboy girl, Ali, JF Lyde, Riijker, The Coal Miners Son, even Foreman and Johannson daughter got involved. :: Joahnsson's daughters first fight was an abomination. She eschewed the usual course of beating up some no hoper by being instead beaten up herself. I read a report of the fight that she had a nosebleed her corner just couldn't stop.
She still regularly gets endorsement deals. I think she realized she could just cash in on her name without getting her brains beaten in, and did just that. She never really stepped up her competition at any point in her career. Even the Christy Martin fight was a sham, since she was like twice her size and Martin was pretty much shot by then anyways.
Mia st. John is the definition of MILF as you can see here from a pic two days ago. And yes, she beat Christy Martin via UD...sweet revenge...
Laila Ali is the CLASSIC Case of a Famous Offspring MILKING her Last Name for Financial Gain...To B Clear, she DID Possess Some Genuine Boxing Talent, but when a LEGITIMATE Rival Surfaced (Ann Wolfe), Laila Shamelessly DUCKED her... REED was Actually a Laila Ali FAN, but 1nce She Started Doing "Dancing with the Stars", "American Gladiators" & Other TV Shows, Instead of Fighting Ann Wolfe, it Became OBVIOUS She Didn't Give a Flying Fuck about BETTERING her Sport.... During the Women's Olympic Boxing Matches, REED Wanted to PUKE when he Saw that Laila was an In Studio Correspondent... REED:shit:
Women's boxing is dead for the most part. Strangely, it sort of fizzled out with Ali, Wolfe, and Rijker all around the span of a few years that they retired from boxing.
I wonder if being admitted to the olympics will rekindle the pro game or just concentrate talent at the olympics where the prestige is. I hope the latter, personally
This is going to hurt many boxing fans to hear, but I think MMA's popularity in America and I guess globally as well is draining our amateur boxers. I think its a new and exciting sport and attracting talent that might otherwise would have gone into boxing. I think its going to be hard to see for a few more years, but boxing is already starting to slow with new talent coming up.
I hadn't thought of that angle, you're right there. Not that America has been producing much these last 15 years, anyway
Laila was a C level fighter at her very best as she never learned the fundamentals correctly and had zero amateur training. REED is correct in that she was afraid of Wolfe and Ann would have destroyed her inside of three rounds.
The talent pool will thin in N.A. no doubt about it, but it will increase internationnaly with China, India and maybe Brazil ( even though I believe MMA is also bigger than boxing there ) as well as the former USSR states getting better pro boxing infrastrucutre ( and by that, I'm mean trainers, strenght and conditionning coach, nutrionnist,...)
Wolfe would have had to take a beating for a few rounds, tough it out and maybe she would have took Ali out after that. I cant blame Ali for not taking the fight. She probably made 5 or 10 times as much money to fight Frazier's daughter. Wolfe was strong/male/tough but not as skilled as Ali. Ali went to High School about 2 blocks from where i grew up at Hamilton. I asked my friend who went there at the same time about her. He is not a boxing fan, but not totally oblivious to the sport. She was just another fat bitch back then, he said. I heard she also got the better of Irish's favorite writer Doug Fischer in sparring, as well.
