do you guys know the difference? i noticed in competition, there are three categories: combat sambo, men's sambo and women's sambo. i know that in combat sambo, you can do both submissions and strikes, so does that mean standard men and women's competition excludes striking? sambo was once part of FILA (official organization for amateur wrestling such as freestyle and greco), but that's no longer the case. in the 80s, it was brought into consideration as an olympic sport but was eventually turned down. i watched one of the old 'human weapons' episodes on sambo the other night and it seemed like combat sambo is the closest organized sport to mma.
