No opponent has been selected for the May fight, but names under discussion include three junior welterweights, all of whom would give up considerable size to De La Hoya in a bout that would likely take place at about 150 pounds: Steve Forbes, reigning titleholder Paulie Malignaggi and Dmitriy Salita.

The good news is that they are looking to make the fight on free TV! That's the least he could do for the sport that made him hundreds of millions!

Salita is arguably the worst undefeated fighter in the sport. He's a complete and utter fraud.

 

oscar will fight salita. he's a club fighter with a shitty chin and shit experience. on top of that, the guy's been inactive.

while oscar should beat forbes and malignaggi, stylistically, they can make him look bad.

 

If DLH was half serious about being competitive against mayweather, he would fight malignaggi but its likely PPV sales in September will be the imperative so he'll pick a salita most likely to make him look good and to the non-boxing crowd, still relevant

 

This might be interesting if Oscar fought all three. Otherwise, no.

Malignaggi? Can't punch...speed and defense isn't that great...what can he do against DLH? Other than RUN....and RUN....

Forbes is the most average of the 3..he has decent everything..power/speed/defense..but he still gets KO'ed by Pollo...

 

No I don't, but at least he and forbes have a modicum of skill and movement, forbes couldnt even get past grady brewer at the higher weight however...

 

If he wanted to make a serious run he should at least look for a welterweight.

You think someone like Paul Williams would have a problem fighting quickly back-to-back if it meant a shot at facing DLH then Mayweather later in the year???
