Do you really want Evander to win a 5th title after embarrasing himself against Donald, Byrd and Toney? Does the Heavyweight division need old faded Evander as one of its titlists? Do we need to see Evander win and then try to unify against someone like Wlad who may send him to his grave?

Do you want Evander to win?

i voted no, because that would mean heavyweights suck worse than i thought, but then again, it would be nice to see holyfield win another belt (although i was never a huge fan of his)

if it were Holyfield v. any other heavyweight, I wouldn't care. But since Warriors Promotion is involved, (and GPHM, for that matteR) sure I wouldn't mind seeing Holyfield win (a rare occasion that I'm rooting for Holyfield)

Just don't ask me to refer to him as a five-time world champion afterward.

I want him beaten in a humiliating fashion, so bad in fact, that he'd be forced to retire by himself, his team, the fans, the sanctioning bodies and boxing at large.

I hate seeing a once great fighter going out of his way to damage his record.

    Retire gracefully PLEASE!!

BOXING DOESN'T NEED A 45 YEAR OLD HOLYFIELD as a HEAVYWEIGHT "CHAMPION"!!!

Yes ... Evander was not himself in those fights. As for Byrd , the 4 punches he manged to throw in the 11th round almost had Byrd going down. A healthy Evander would have stopped Byrd in the 7th or 8th.

I'd like to see him get the title one more time !!

the only reason Holyfield lost to Donald was because of Donald's style.

You know what I notice? Everybody talks like Holyfield is being unreasonable, that he is niave, that he is got so many other things to do. You know what people? Holyfield is a boxer. He prepares for his fights... He has won the last few times out and he is a veteran. It is his body his health and his future. I still drag my fat ass out to the mats because I like it and if it means I die a little sooner because I got slammed a few too many times.... So the fuck what? :dunno:

I would rather see Holyfield doing what he wants to do than making more kids, drinking and getting obese and stupid. I respect him because he tries. Unlike briggs, who talks the talk then shuts down, Holly trains and wins his fights. He gets motivated and in the ring he can be inspiring.

And even though Rubio will no doubt call me stupid....I think Holly is still a live opponent because he has learned a lot in the ring, overcome adversity in the ring, beat the most feared manin boxing in the ring....

I am with him on this one. Look at the man he is in shape, he is determined and he has some weapons. Frankly even against Vlad you never know.... Don't underestimate determination and skills. Nobody thought Holly could take Mike either. I never cared for Holly in his prime but I am with him on this. In the heavyweight division guys can fight past forty.

Wlad would kill him. Drago vs Creed, simple as that.

Sure do. I respect people that try to achieve. Last time I checked Holly was not missing out on teaching French lit at UofT.... His family wasn't asking him to stay at home and change the diapers. The man is a boxer who has shown forbearance in the ring that is commendable (unlike in other places heheh).

The body declines but we have some control over that process. Holly is in good shape, he has fought well enough to win his last few boughts. People love to make everything about a person a black and white issue... Maybe Holly is telling the truth and is not shot yet.

yeah and how many people said that when he went up against Tyson?

Heres another thing: Holly can fight on the inside Sly, how many people has Vlad fought that can bang on the inside? I can answer that...one. peter sucks on the inside, so don't go there, Brock who is well rounded had Vlad frustrated when he fought him inside... watch the early rounds of that fight. But Brock wasn't good enough to stay there, he just did not have the ability to fight at that distance. Brewster won his fight with Vlad hooking and going inside. Brewster was able to beat Vlad up on the inside.

The difference is that Holly can fight at that distance very well. He is a lot better at that distance than people think.... It is how he pushed Tyson back on his heels and won those fights.

Come on Rubio get my back on this one: Whatever anyone thinks of the bastard maker, is there anyone in the division aside from him that can fight on the inside with any success? Maybe Tua.... maybe. Holly is damn good at fighting inside.

Might that be a potential liabilty if he can get inside Vlad's jab? :dunno:

Dude, you just hit the nail on the head as to why I've had a change of heart about Holyfield continuing to box. The guy obviously still loves the sport. He obviously still loves professional boxing and everything that goes along with getting his body prepard for fight night.

There are quite a few things I still do athletically that I probably shouldn't because of age and wear, but ultimately I still love doing them and that's the deciding factor. And I ain't getting paid. Holyfield is.

So to answer the question; yes I will absolutely be rooting for Evander. To be honest, after finally getting to see the Savarese fight, I think Evander will give Sultan a tough night and could win it.

I think Holyfield winning would be "bad" for boxing...

But I can't help rooting for him, though I know he should retire.

    Hopkins isn't that far behind.

    Peace.

Root for a once great Champion in Holyfield.

    Or

Never will be great or even very good titlist in Ibragamov.

    Gimme Holyfield!!

sure why not? people need to stop wishing Holy retires. win or lose he won't retire. that's pretty much obvious. The guy will probably die in the ring. But don't look at this fight like something he will use to gauge his ability at this stage.

I have never seen Sultan fight so I have no idea how good he is or what style he has.

Another belt for Holy would be nice. I he is stubborn enough to still fight at this stage might as well pick a belt and make it worth his while.:dunno:

I think part of it is an age thing. Some of the guys here have not had to deal YET  with that time in life where you have to decide whether you want to take a "less active role." A Euphamism for hanging it up. I mean frankly most guys our age don't get thrown around on the mat, or play contact sports anymore.... they just sort of go through the motions when they are training, or playing, and we could get away with that, or so I figure, at our age Sec. But you lose a lot that way.

For me I love the sickning feeling in my gut when I get tossed good and my wrist is torqued... when you can feel the intent of the person really trying to drop you! Or the crunch of a good punch in the body that makes you gasp for air for a second. I always feel good after training this way, even if a little sore.

What people don't get is that in a sense Caligula is right, it makes you feel so alive! :eek:ld: . And Sec I don't know what your thing is but I would be willing to bet its the same deal. It also makes you take care of yourself so you can keep going back and doing more.

Oh yeah gladys? who made you judge and jury about what is good for boxing? Sorry couldn't resist. :kick:

The truth is Donny your correct. It would make the heavyweight division pretty pathetic if Holy can endure. Actually if one ponders this fight it is a watershed of sorts. Ibrig is a typical Eastern Euro well trained heavy. Can his skills make Holy look as old as he is? Or are these guys inferior in ability to the golden 90's troupe who once rained supreme?

I could give a shit less about Abragimov but seeing a 45 year old (or whatever) guy who is as shot as Holy is winning a title would be pathetic.

I can see why people would root for Evander because of his career and wishing him well. However i'm moreso cheering for boxing than an individual.

Let's look at the larger picture here people.
