... that the two most compelling fights in MMA, Lesnar/Fedor and Silva/Machida, aren't going to happen?

    Discuss.

I think there are other great matchups that WILL happen, but you are right on both counts. Those are fantastic matchups that every MMA fan would love to see.

On top of that, after the way Silva destroyed Griffin tonight it really makes you wonder if there is anyone outside of Machida that can stop him at 205.

But the whole idea of matchups is why I love the UFC. As Kenny Florian ripped off 6 wins in a row at 155 pounds you didn't have to hope and pray that he'd get a shot at the title. It was going to happen. There is no ducking by champions in the UFC. They have to fight the top guys.

I realize there are great MMA fighters outside the UFC that we may never see square off against the UFC's best and that sucks. But I love the fact that there are no "gimme" defenses for UFC title holders.

Seriously, BJ Penn just choked out Florian and in a few months he'll be back in the octagon with Diego Sanchez. That's great.

Anderson vs CroCop would seriously be something at 205. Cro could make that weight. I just wonder if Anderson's skinny little legs could absorb the power of CroCop's kicks. Because CroCop would sure be targetting those legs.

I don't think the Machida/Silva fight would be entertaining at all. Compelling yes, but entertaining no. Two elusive, highly skilled patient counterpunchers. I can see the fight being a feint fest with little damage being done.

On top of that they spar together and are actually friends. They do not even want to hurt eachother in the first place. Under different circumstances where they don't know eachother MAYBE it turns out to be a great fight. But the fact that they are friends is the icing on the cake.

Silva and Machida will never happen. At the post-fight press conference a reporter asked Silva and Dana about the possibilities of this fight. As soon as the question was asked, Silva started shaking his head no. The entire time Dana was talking about the fact that he would sign this fight if Silva won a few more fights at 205, Silva was shaking his head no. He then said that he and Lyoto are brothers, and they will never fight. He also said jokingly that he didn't want to fight Lyoto because it would be a tough fight for him.

does Machida have exactly the same stance on the possible Silva match up as Silva does?....presumably so, but if he is more partial to the idea, then he can make it happen....all he has to do is goad Silva into it......either that, or someone needs to create some beef between these two. They are both in the UFC....this fight should happen!

....if Silva stands firm on this, White has to tread carefully....if he tries to hard to make it happen, Silva might just pack up and go fight Roy.

    GREAT Question...

Thus Far, REED's Only Heard Silva Openly Speaking of NOT Wanting this Fight to Happen...

That's what most people thought going into the Machida-Evans fight. But Machida showed that he CAN initiate, punish and still not get hit.

I think it would entertaining as hell.

    agREED

SOME Friends R Able to Put their Feelings to the Side & Fight HARD Anyways...Others End Up Having Glorified SPARRING Sessions...REED Can Easily Envision 1 Guy Hurting the Other then Making No Effort WHATSOEVER in Attempting to Finish Him...

Instead of Going for the Kill, he'd PULL Up, they'd GLOVE TOUCH & the "Fight" would Commence...

The IDEA of Silva-Machida is Tantalizing, but the REALITY of it Probably Wouldn't B...

No way is White letting their friendship get in the middle of one of the most coveted matchups today. If White says it, they got to fight...friendship or not.

WHAT's he Gonna Do???...Put GUNS to their Heads OR Threaten to Kick Them OUT of the UFC???...As DISAPPOINTING as it'd B to ALL MMA Fans (REED Included), there's Really NATHAN Dana White Can Do, if these Guys REALLY DON'T Want to Fight Each Other...

The MOST Dana Could Do is Make OBSCENE Contractual Offers to them, but by Doing that, he's OPENING the Floodgates for Fighters Down the Road to Request the SAME Amount....

Don't be naive, REED. Dana doesn't have to put a gun to anybody's head, all he's gotta do is tell them "Sure, you don't have to fight eachother, but you sure as f*ck ain't gonna ever find yourselves on a ppv ever again either. You'll be fighting on free Spike TV on "UFC FightNight" from here onward...so go ahead and f*ck eachother good to your heart's content.":crafty:
Adding to that, both Machida and Anderson no longer enjoy the money they used to and hence are forced to fight eachother or go to some other organization which pays them half of what they make in the UFC.

HOW Does that BENEFIT White when UFC's Most SOUGHT AFTER Matchup is Silva/Machida AND they're THE 2 BEST Fighters in the Organizaion, Lb for Lb????...

@ SOME Point, Dana White WILL LEARN that the FIGHTERS & FIGHTS R What's Most Important to UFC...Do U HONESTLY Think Silva & Machida would just FADE AWAY into "Bolivian", if Dana Pulled the Type of Power Move U're Suggesting???...

Actually they just might. If Anderson calls it quits and decides to go to boxing only to get KTFO by Roy Jones which is the likely scenario, where does that leave him? And what legacy will Machida have if he's fighting scrubs? And I highly doubt Machida is going to go undefeated for the rest of his career. It's not happening. It's a fight that needs to be made now while it's hot before it fizzles out. Much like Fedor/Lesnar is the fight to make right now before both or either one gets KTFO.
UFC is a business and it's in the best interest of White to give the fans the most sought after matchups AND to make as much money as possible. And it's also in the best interest of Machida to defend his 205lb title against the best fighters in the world. If Anderson had no inclination to fight for the 205lb title, what the f*ck is he doing at 205 then? Why not stay at 185 and dominate there?

Cause Reed's full o' crud! Reed also doesn't complain when his bitch ass hero Floyd Fairyweather is fighting little guys at catchweights instead of the real guys in his own weight class. Reed pretends that he's impartial and objective. You can see he's all about favouritism, especially when it comes to Fagweather Jr.

REED ISN'T "Cool" w/it...REED has Made it Clear that he's "DISAPPOINTED" that Silva-Machida Likely WON'T Happen...The Klits Doing it for Years has Apparently DEsensitized REED to the Whole Idea...
