Doesn't UFC 117 seem MUCH stronger than UFC 118?

    UFC 117:
    Silva-Sonnen
    Fitch-Alves
    Guida-Dos Anjos (Guaranteed non-stop action)
    Nelson-Cigano Dos Santos
    Almeida-Hughes

    UFC 118:
    Edgar-Penn 2
    Couture-Toney
    Florian-Maynard
    Nate Diaz-Marcus Davis
    Marquardt-Palhares

I dunno. 117 seems stacked, but 118 seems kind of mediocre. There's the freak factor or unknown quantity with the Couture-Toney fight, but I'm not excited about Florian-Maynard, Marquardt-Palhares, or Edgar-Penn 2.

UFC 117 just seems way more interesting...maybe because I'm not a Hughes fan and I think he gets whooped. The other four fights look pretty damn good also.

UFC 118 might not get my cash. UFC 117 definitely will.

Well, 117 definitely looks like the more stacked card. But I am really looking forward to more on the 118 card other than Couture-Toney.

Maynard-Florian is a title eliminator. Diaz in essentially his welterweight debut against the hard-hitting Davis is a great matchup. Marquardt-Palhares is likely a title eliminator as well. Hard to believe this will be Marquardt's first fight since losing to Sonnen at UFC 109.

But I am really looking forward to Penn-Edgar II. BJ has alot to prove and should push things a little harder. Edgar is driven to prove the first fight wasn't a fluke. It should be interesting.

117 > 118 but not by much in my opinion.

I think they stack up pretty evenly, but it depends what you're looking for.

I can't help but be suckered into the Couture-Toney hype. Florian-Maynard carries more intrigue in the relevance and competitiveness, rather than any anticipation for it being a great fight.

I think the Edgar-Penn rematch will be better than the first...i think we'll see some adjustments from BJ.

I like 117 a lot too....Nelson's done well in his time at the UFC, but i can't shake the memory of the Arlovski fight when weighing up his chances against Dos Santos. I too don't give Hughes much hope vs Almeida....if you don't like Matt Hughes, that's great....but if you're indifferent towards him, then you're probably gonna be indifferent towards the fight itself.

Bottom line, is that they are two very good cards, back-to-back.....as a paying UFC customer, i'd have no problem with UFC putting events on within a short period of time if they were consistently as good as this...that hasn't always been the case recently.

But as a Brit, paying a mere 12 quid a month for ESPN UK to get all my UFC action....i say bring on as many events as possible as quickly as possible!

It's true, in Europe, UFC comes with basic cable. I wonder how long that will last.

Anyway both are solid, I'm more looking forward to 118, because the Palhares-Marqardt fight is a great one I'm looking forward to, Florian and Maynard is a very important fight, and Penn and Edgar is one of the more interesting fights of the year for me, since anything can happen there.

Both main event sucks imo, Penn-Edgar I was a bore and I expect an easy win for Penn in the rematch, Sonnen-Silva could be interesting but Silva hasn't been fun lately and Sonnen looks to be pretty outclassed. Apart from that, the undercard are pretty much the same to me, Toney-Couture is very interesting to me, even thought I know I will be disapointed by it ( quick Ko or gnp clinic ). And Diaz-Davis, Marquart-Palhares and Florian-Maynard are all quality fights.

On UFC 117, the only fight that really interest me is JDS-Nelson, Fitch-Alves could be good but Fitch is the personification of a waste of time. Almeida-Hughe will be boring and I don't find Guida energetic lay and pray fun.

In fact, thinking about it, I find 118 to be quite a bit stronger than 117

I disagree. There's the freak factor around Couture-Toney but I expect it to be over fairly quickly.

Diaz-Davis looks ok because Davis is a decent boxer by MMA standards and Nate seems to be a bit of a catcher.

Maynard just isn't exciting for me to watch. Wrestle, wrestle, throw a haymaker. Florian, on the other hand, is well-rounded and interesting to watch.

Edgar-Penn was dull as Hell the first time around.

Marquardt-Palhares is exciting in the sense that I'm curious if Nate can keep it standing. His mobility on the ground might be hampered by his fused vertebrae.

I still think 117 looks more appealing by a fair bit.
