I have never been a big fan of Murphy's but I haven't seen much of him either so I can't give a good judgment. His movie Meet Dave, which I have never heard of before, is on TV tonight. Is it any good, should it make me a Murphy fan?

With a few exceptions you need to stick to "Boomerang" era (around 1992) and earlier.

Most other stuff, he's just a shadow of his former self.

There's a HANDFUL of "LOL" Moments, but for the Most Part, "Meet Dave" is 1 of Eddie's WORST Movies..."Pluto Nash" MIGHT have Been Worse...
    REED's a DIE-HARD Eddie Murphy Fan & @ Best, REED Would Rate "Meet Dave" a 3.5 or 4, Out of 10....

I thought it was okay. Definitely a 1 time view only, though.

So my opinion is your time could be better spent playing Call Of Duty, jerking off to some porn, or in your case knitting yourself so new mittens.

For me...Eddie Murphy is the following films:

    48 hours (Original)
    Trading Places
    Beverly Hills Cop (Original)
Golden Child (cheesy stupid film but entertaining)
Coming to America (although it was Arsenio Hall's character that stands out)
    Boomerang

After that his films and performances were forgettable...

The last legitimately funny Eddie Murphy movie was the first Nutty Professor. In the 15 years since then, he's put out mediocre, to pure SHIT movies.

Norbit had to be one of the worst comedies in history. Meet Dave looks even WORSE than Norbit, but I'll never know, cause I dont intend to ever watch it.

Nah...Norbit was Pretty Funny, Actually...Eddie's HILARIOUS as Mr. Wong & Rasputia...Marlon Wayans as the Power Tap Instructor was Pretty Funny Too & Eddie Griffin & Kat Williams had GOOD Chemistry...

Norbit's a SILLY Movie, but it has Plenty of LOL Moments...

    Nah...

Arsenio was an Excellent COMPLIMENT to Eddie in "Coming to America", but Eddie KILLED it...Arsenio was Good as the Old Guy in the Barbershop, but Eddie was FUNNIER as the Main Old Guy in the Barbershop...Eddie was the Old Jewish Guy in the Barbershop Too...

Arsenio was Funny as the Preacher, but Eddie was FUNNIER as Randy Watson, Lead Singer of Sexual Chocolate...

Eddie's Done Some DECENT Shit Since Boomerang (Nutty Professor, Life, Showtime, Dreamgirls) & he's Done Some VERY Memorable Family Films (The Shrek Series, Dolittle, Daddy Day Care)...

REED Thinks Eddie's Got 1 or 2 More CLASSICS Left in him...

In terms of the "other characters" I agree with you on Eddie vs Arsenio (In Coming to America).

I terms of the main characters, Arsenio Hall generated the laughs:

"You sweat from a baboon's balls!!"
    "Hippopotamus shit!"
"Your wife need only have a pretty face, firm backside and big breasts like casour melons"
    "You diseased rhinocerous pizzle!"

Best lines in the film came from him.

True...Eddie was Pretty STRAIGHT FORWARD as Prince Akeem...VIRTUOUS, even...Arsenio had the Better Lines as Semi...

Two underrated movies Eddie was in, first is "Bowfinger" with Steve Martin. I still think it's funny. I liked how Murphy's humor worked despite being in a Steve Martin type film.

It's not a comedy but I also liked Eddie in "Metro." Plus I liked the Brit sister.

Think of the TALENT it Takes to CONVINCINGLY Play a SASSY Black Woman, an ASIAN Guy & a DORKY Brother All in the SAME Flick...This WASN'T Tyler Perry or Martin Lawrence Donning Wigs & Big Woman Dresses, this was Eddie Murphy BECOMING a Woman, Basically...

Eddie Pulled it Off & There's Probably No Fewer than 15-20 HILARIOUS 1-Liners, Not to Mention, Several Genuinely Funny Scenes...

We're NEVER gonna agree on Norbit, brah.

I think I chuckled ONCE. Twice TOPS. I never LAUGHED at all.

I forgot about Life though. Thats probably the last Eddie moved I enjoyed. Life had a few hilarious moments, and overall was a pretty good movie.

But since Life(which was 99 I believe)..... I havent liked any Eddie movie.

    That's where we differ homie...

I find it MOTHERFUCKINGLY RIDICULOUS when a man plays different characters in the same flick...especially if one of the characters is a woman. I see no comedic value in it whatsoever and I don't think it's even all that impressive. Anyone can "act the fool" and pretend he's a "chinaman" or a woman.

That's NOT what Eddie Did in Norbit Though...

Each Character he Portrayed Looked & BEHAVED Differently...If No One TOLD U Mr. Wong was Really Eddie Murphy, U'd have Thought he was just Some CRASS Asian Cat...Just like No One Thought Eddie was the Old Jewish Guy in the Barbershop, in Coming to America...

Eddie NAILED Rasputia...The Quintessential SASSY Black Woman...The WALK, the ATTITUDE, the MANNERISMS...Eddie Murphy BECAME a Black Woman, Basically...That's ACTING...

U're Confusing Eddie's Characters w/that LAME Shit Tyler Perry & Martin Lawrence Pull Off, as Madea & Big Momma...

I have to agree with the consensus...Norbit wasn't funny.

To this day, I say that's the reason Eddie didn't win the Oscar for Dream Girls. That and the fact there's been a long standing grudge against him for the comments he made at the Oscars in the late 80's.

Eddie literally won every major award for his supporting role in Dream Girls to then lose the Oscar.

Piece of shit movies typically come after Oscars are won. Natalie Portman had several stinkers come out in the months after her Oscar win.
